Federal Programs

  • Grant funds provided by the federal government to facilitate educational initiatives in specific populations:
    • Title I: Largest federal aid program for schools
      • Goal is for all children, especially “high risk” students to receive a quality education
    • Title II
      • Preparing, training, and recruiting high quality teachers, principals, and other school leaders
    • Title IV
      • Student Support and Academic Enrichment (SSAE)

How are Title I, II, and IV Funds Used?

  • Salaries (all or partial)
    • Teachers, Instructional Specialists, Tutors, Interventionists, Administrators
  • Books and materials for students
  • Computer programs
    • IXL, Accelerated Reader, EdGems, Flocabulary
  • Programs to support or enrich existing student programs
  • Social/Emotional supports for students and families

  • Safety and healthy schools awareness and training
  • Training, conferences, professional development
  • Parent engagement, communication, homeless assistance
  • School-Community events: parent nights, school transition programs

Key Components

  • Needs Assessment

A planning team looks at strengths and weaknesses related to student performance.

  • Schoolwide Plan

Based on the needs assessment, a comprehensive plan is developed to help all students do their best in school. The plan will outline goals and strategies.

  • Yearly Review

Each year, the school must determine if the goals have been met.

Parent/Family Involvement

Ways to participate:

  • Take part in creating and evaluating the Title I program.

  • Attend school events

  • Visit your child’s classroom

  • Attend parent teacher conferences

  • Keep your child’s teacher informed of changes that may affect attendance, behavior, or work.

You have a right to:

  • See progress reports on your child AND the school

  • Request information about your child’s teacher’s qualifications

  • Help decide if Title I is meeting your child’s needs and offer suggestions
