Hillside’s mission is to provide academic & social support for all students, provide an environment that enables each student to understand his/her academic responsibility, help students strive toward their maximum academic potential and provide students with an education to allow success in the 21st century.

Introduction

This plan is the first step toward beginning school five days a week on August 17, 2020. Our goal is to provide a high-quality educational experience while respecting the Centers for Disease Control guidelines. It reflects input from parents, educational and health professionals, state officials.

This comprehensive plan, is neither exhaustive nor static. Day-to-day school-level operational plans, athletics and activities guidelines, may change due to new information in regards to COVID19 and CDC guidelines.

Overall Hillside

Implementation Strategies

Face coverings that completely cover the person's nose and mouth are required for all students, staff, and visitors while inside all District schools/facilities, including school buses. Face masks are preferred to a face shield.
Hand sanitizer will be available for all staff and students while at Hillside.
Hand washing/sanitizing stations will be available throughout the school and in classrooms.
All staff will monitor students health and follow protocols in regards to COVID-19.

In the classroom...

While our teachers and staff continue to foster the love of learning the following are protocols to help continue to keep our students safe;

Face Coverings are required.
Eliminate spaces where students can gather in groups.
Students will not share class supplies, if at all possible. Any shared supplies (art, science lab materials, etc.) will be disinfected between student use.
Distancing students in the classroom and creating safe individual work spaces.
Students assigned personal items - no sharing.
Protocols for disinfecting spaces and hands will be strictly enforced frequently.
Electronic learning will be a focus to make a possible transition to home learning easier.

In the lunchroom & at break...

Socializing and being active is important to the wellness of our students, the following protocols will be followed to support a safe, healthy, and active environment;

Lunch will be served in the cafeteria. Handwashing station will be available upon entering and students will be seated following CDC guidelines.
An additional lunch period will be added to reduce the numbers in the cafeteria.
Structured activities will be available for students to play and socialize, while maintaining social distance.
Students will have access to gymnasium and a designated outside area to ensure physical distancing.
Protocols for disinfecting equipment and hands will be strictly enforced frequently.
