Bell Schedule

Please note that lunches might have a mix of student grades due to specialty classes. Lunches are not solely assigned by grade level.

ACADEMIC REQUIREMENTS

In order to be promoted to 7th grade students must pass:

• One semester with a passing grade in mathematics, English or reading, and science
• Half a credit in mathematics
• Half a credit in English or reading
• Half a credit in science

ATTENDANCE

Excused absences include personal illness (MED) doctor’s appointment or care (MDP) and circumstance (CIR)

​

A note needs to be turned in to the school within three (3) days of a student’s return. Any doctor appointments or students under a doctor’s care for medical reasons, a doctor’s note must be submitted.

​

Getting absences excused is extremely important! Students can lose credit in their classes if they have too many unexcused absences!

​

• Parents can fill out the online “Excuse an Absence” form on the school’s website.
• Students can bring in a note and turn it in to the front office.

Denial of Credit (NRS 392.040 )

​

Any student who has more than 8 unapproved (unexcused) absences (9) will be denied credit for the semester.

​

Losing credit in your classes could prevent students from getting promoted to 7th grade!

DENIAL OF CREDIT

Early Check Out Policy

• Parents must show photo ID in order to check out a student.
• If the student is picked up for a medical/dentist appointment early in the day, a doctor’s office note must be submitted.
• Any early check outs prior to the last period of the day must have a note turned in to excuse any periods missed after the period they were checked out.
• The office will call parents/guardians to get an approval for any Emergency Contacts picking up students.
• No Check outs will be allowed after 1:55 PM.

Tardy Policy

Students who are not in their seat when the bell rings will be marked tardy.

If your child arrives late, please remind them to check Infinite Campus to ensure they are not marked absent. Contact the teacher if you notice any errors.

Teachers will refer students who have more than three tardies to the SSO.

​

Students who are late to 1st/2nd period, can be walked into the main office by a parent. These students will be marked tardy, but progressive discipline will not be followed.

​

Any student who is more than 30 minutes late will be considered absent from that period.

​

School Delivery Procedures

• Only deliveries of school-related items can occur.
• Chromebooks, school work, PE clothes, phones, and athletic team uniforms, and home-made lunches
• Not allowed for delivery- Cash, balloons, flowers,fast-food lunches, perfume/cologne, makeup.
• No food deliveries–Grubhub, Uber Eats, Doordash, etc. will not be accepted for students.

• Parents can come to the front office to have school-related items ONLY delivered to students.

DRESS CODE

“Dress for Success”

​

• Shoes must have soles. No slides. (Crocs are acceptable)
• Shirts must be three inches or wider at the shoulder and must cover undergarments.
• Bottoms must be fingertip length or longer; skin must not be visible if rips or tears are above fingertip length.
• Pants must be at waist-level; NO SAGGING.
• Hats and head gear are not allowed.
• All apparel must be school-appropriate.
• No spikes or studs.
• No outerwear or sunglasses.
• No Flashdance shirts. (Shirt cut to not cover shoulders)

CELL PHONE POLICY

Students will be expected to place their cell phones in “airplane” mode and place in a non-locking signal blocking pouch during instructional time. Students will have access to their cell phones in case of an emergency.

Students are allowed to use their phones during lunch time and after school.

Student ID Badges

Starting the first day of school, students will be required to wear their school ID badges. Students will be issued temporary ID badges the first day. Students will receive their official badge during picture days later in the year.

• IDs must be worn at all school events.
• Students use their IDs to scan into classes for attendance.

If students misplace their ID badges, they may pay $5 for a replacement badge through the Library/SSO.

LOCKER POLICY

Every student will be assigned a locker to provide storage of backpacks, school supplies, and musical instruments. Students will only be required to carry a Chromebook and any necessary items needed during the school day.

​

• Students will not be allowed to carry their backpacks throughout the day.
• Students are able to access their lockers before school, before/after lunch, and after school.

PROGRESSIVE DISCIPLINE

Teachers will have a progressive discipline plan that will be shared with students. It can include:

• Warnings, conferences, and parent contact

​

SSO can issue the following for discipline:

• Warnings, conferences, parent contact, detention, Restorative Circles and IHS (In-house) for minor events.
• RPC (Required Parent Conference), SWI (Suspension) TABS (Tarkanian Alternate Behavior School)

Organizational Expectations

• Infinite Campus is a secure and private internet service available for parents/guardians and students to electronically access grades, attendance, missing assignments, and other aspects of life at school.

• Canvas is the Learning Management System (LMS) used in ALL classes for instruction, quizzes, tests, notes, class materials, and resources. Each student should log in to Canvas daily, and parents can also access student accounts to stay up-to-date.

Each teacher may also provide a supply list. This list will get students started:

• Pens (Blue and Black)

• Binder with pockets
• Pencil Pouch (3 hole punched)
• Loose-leaf notebook paper
• 6 Dividers with pockets
• Highlighters
• Colored Pencils

Students need to bring a CHARGED Chromebook to school daily!

Student Fees

Tarkanian is a CASH/Credit Card school! (A 4% processing fee plus $.25 per item charge is added to any credit card purchases.)

​

PE Uniform- $20

Course Fee-Art, Band, Choir, and Orchestra- $40 (extra fees will incur in Performing Arts)

PE Lock Rental- $3 Replacement is $5

Parents need to register students on “Aktivate” and fill out a athletic packet that can be picked up in the front office.

$20 Sports fee for each sport. This supports all programs on campus. Non-refundable.

ATHLETICS REQUIREMENTS

• Sports physical for the 25-26 school year
• At least a 2.0 GPA and maintain GPA through the season
• No behavior infractions
• Fee depending on the sport
• Packets available in the main office
• All paperwork must be turned in by the set due date for students to try out for any sport.

Late Bus

Students who participate in after school activities can take a late bus if they are already registered to take the bus to school.

​

The late bus runs Monday through Thursday each week. Pick up from school is 4:00 PM. Announcements are made at 3:45 PM for students to arrive to the front of the school to start boarding.

​

Students must be registered to take the bus in order to take the late bus.
