Game Day

On Game Day:

We are going to be using modified player pitching:

  • Players pitch and get 3 pitches per batter; no balls and strikes.
    • Players will pitch from a modified rubber location fitting their arm strength.
  • If batter has not hit the ball in 3 pitches, batting team coach step up to pitch.
  • Player that was pitching stands beside the mound to continue fielding the position.

Game Day

On Game Day, cont:

  • With coach pitching, batter gets 3 swings, otherwise s/he is out.  If the batter hits a foul ball after having 2 strikes, s/he gets another chance.
    • No balls/strikes for non-swings. Stationary players will be encouraged to swing, including ultimatum on pitch count where appropriate.
  • Outs recorded in the field. Runners that are out return to their bench.

Baserunning

  • Infield hits are singles.

  • Hits traveling to the outfield max out as doubles.

  • Batter stops on second, and other base runners stop after moving ahead a maximum of two bases.

  • No leading, stealing, or advancing on over-throws

  • No head-first slides (runner is out)

General Rules

  • 3 outs or 7 batters per inning max with a continuous batting order.

  • No score is kept.  Focus for this level should be on skill development.

  • No umpires; base coaches make calls on the field (unclear situations will err on the side of the runner to promote development opportunity with base running).

  • No infield fly rule.

General Rules

  • No batters “on deck” at any time. This is a safety rule, as kids this age are not always (or even often) paying attention to the live ball or where they’re swinging the bat.

  • Each team will have 6 players in the infield – P, C, 1B, 2B, 3B, and SS. It is important for players at this level to learn “real” baseball infield positions. Those not playing an infield position will be placed in the outfield. Players that played outfield the previous inning will be switched to infield the next.

  • Coaches will strive for four innings per game, but may be called early due to time.
