2nd Grade Reading

Science of Reading Focus:

  • Curriculum that is systematic, cumulative, and explicit (builds off of previous learning that is directly taught so no learning is left up to chance).�
  • Essential Questions that explore real word concepts with diverse genres and books to support learning.�
  • The main reading goal of second grade is to build strong decoding skills to help increase reading fluency which ultimately helps with overall reading comprehension.

At Home Learning

  • We encourage that children read at least 20 minutes a day - ask them questions and talk to them about the story.�
  • Students can work on iReady at home, but it is not a requirement.
  • Students can go on Clever.com for other websites to work on from home.

Communication

  • Weekly 2nd grade newsletter highlightings important information and will be sent out before the next Monday.�
  • Remember that birthday invites cannot be distributed at school - please view the Parent Communication Directory for second grade parent contact information (please see email)�
  • E-mail Protocol - Allow a 24 hour response from your child’s teacher during the school week.�
  • For same day emergency responses - Please contact the school office. Often times, we do not check our emails within school hours.

“Lone Tree Lion Folder”

  • The Lone Tree Lion folder will be sent home when there is important communication or information that needs to be shared. Please always send the folder back so we have it when we need it. Otherwise, we will communicate through email.
