Product Roadmap 2017

Assumptions:

  • All projects require engineering team of 12-24 to produce visible inspirational velocity; projects begin development with 12 engineers in place
    • As in scrum, people pair up for a team of 12 building to 24
    • Each Team Member keeps a Work Log and Backlog.
  • Goal for HR function: weekly onboarding rate of 3 people per week, or 4 weeks to build a team; 4 week training period for CAD, Design Guides, etc.
  • 10 hour/person weekly average requirement
  • Serious recruiting function is developed
  • Retention via training and visible velocity
  • Weekly goal for an effective team is a combined 240 hours, or nominally 1.5 months of full time development
    • xPM manages 2 teams directly, and oversees 4 more teams indirectly
    • Process Managers report to xPM directly
    • 6 projects total at one time per xPM
    • After 6 projects are achieved, OSE Lieutenants in Training are started
  • Roadmap is fixed for the year based on ambitious build schedule + product ecology + 20 year roadmap
