Automatic Drawing

Materials Needed:

- paper (printer, notebook, junk mail)

- pencil or pen

  • Don’t try to make your drawing “look” like anything
  • Try to draw as long as your can without stopping (this will keep you from thinking too much)
  • Experiment, try new things.
  • HAVE FUN!

I think you’ll be surprised how long you can spend drawing like this...

when I get into my mandalas (which aren’t totally automatic) I sometimes spend hours without realizing it!

Marc, Paper, Scissors

Materials Needed:

- papers

- scissors

- glue

  • Find a variety of papers
  • Pick a surface to build your collage on (paper, cardboard?)
  • Make a plan, will it be abstract or based on real life?
  • Think about composition - cut, arrange, rearrange
  • Glue and photograph your work (or just photograph)

No scissors? Explore Torn Paper Collage.

No Glue? Assemble your collage and take a picture before you rearrange or destroy.

No construction paper? Magazines, Newspapers, Cereal Boxes, and Painted Paper work great for collage!

Lyric or Quote Art

Materials Needed:

- paper

- pencil or pen

- color (if you want)

- collage materials?

- google draw?

  • Pick a song lyric or quote that you like.
  • Think about different symbols and typefaces that will help you convey meaning of feeling behind the words.
  • OR maybe you want to look for the words and cut them from magazines?
  • OR maybe you use google draw or other digital app?

Taking time to make art about inspiring or positive words can be a really powerful experience.
