Introduction

What will you do/learn?

  • You will experience SQDL, an active learning pedagogy.
  • You will gain knowledge about a new concept called Everyday Computational Thinking.
  • You will undergo a question-posing activity.
  • You will periodically reflect on the steps in this strategy.
  • You will be able to gain insights into the orchestration of SQDL learning strategy for your teaching practice.

Let’s introduce your different roles today

Teacher

Learner

Researcher

Let’s introduce you to the Role by color code and picture you have to follow today

Follow our instructions when we lead you to the pedagogical strategy - SQDL - as a learner (Blue color slide)

Think about your class when we ask you to reflect on some activity slides - as a teacher (yellow color slide)

Instruction screen

You can use any random name in filling up the activity responses.

We only ask you to use the same name throughout all the activities.

Reflection Activity-1

Have you asked a question in the conference, after a presentation?

7 of 45

Reflection Activity-1

Did it ever occur to you that,You wanted to ask a question.. But you were afraid to ask it promptly?

Or because of time constraints the session chair (or your teacher) couldn’t pick your question even if you had raised hand?

8 of 45

Reflection Activity-1

If your answer is yes, how did that make you feel?

9 of 45

Reflection Activity-1

Now, as a teacher, do you believe that there is some merit in asking questions?

10 of 45

Reflection Activity-1

How will you answer all the important questions?

how do you try to give a fair chance to the students to ask questions?

11 of 45

Reflection Activity-1

What does it mean for me to be able to ask questions?

12 of 45

Why session on Question Posing

  • Question-posing skills reflect the thinking process. They help in learning the subject matter deeply and expressing doubts effectively
  • Nowadays we need problem solvers, decision-makers, and innovators. It is more important to be able to think properly. Know your own doubt and clear it.
  • A person who knows his own deficiency of knowledge is a better person to solve it.
  • This is one of gap between industry and academia. Academics don’t teach us directly how to develop think process while learning a subject, but a student is expected to have these skills, which are the most desired by a company.

2. Exploratory Questions : Questions in which we try to seek information or knowledge outside of today’s lecture content.

How this line is related to another knowledge that I have? How are they related?
