Food Recovery bot

The problem

One third of all the food that is intended for human consumption is wasted or lost.

1/3rd

1kg of rice requires around 2000-3000 litres of water throughout its growth cycle.

If food loss was a country, it would be the third-largest greenhouse gas emitter, behind China and the US.

No. 3

If we stopped throwing food away, we can save the equivalent of 17 metric tonnes of CO2, which can be the environmental equivalent of keeping five cars off the roads.

The world population will hit 9 billion people. By then, food production must be increased by 70% from today’s levels to meet this demand.

70%

This refers to agricultural land use expansion leading to loss of biodiversity & habitats nearby forested areas.

If 25% of the food currently being lost or wasted globally was saved, it would be enough to feed 870 million people around the world.

870M

Creates an ethical problem in the world society where 800M people are severely malnutritioned due to food unavailability.

Future Possibilities

  1. Open chatbot on several platforms run by a community of volunteers.
  2. Contribute journey, volunteer journey can be used for collecting rations, food & other amenities from donors to provide it to victims of disaster.( Ex: Contribution to flood victims).
  3. Chatbot connecting bulk waste generators to bulk waste aggregators. Ex: Bulk waste generators to be linked to city’s composting units.
  4. Marketplace chatbot for linking excess food that are generally thrown out due to their ugly aesthetics( shape or look) to consumers. Ex: ugly veggies available at lower price than market price.
