BTC Hijacking v2.0 - Filter Freakout

• This week there has been massive drama in BTC-land. Peter Todd tries to fast track a change to OP_RETURN filters in Bitcoin Core. Bitcoin Mechanic (after being censored) leads a counter-crusade which has basically kicked off a (fairly serious & potentially calamitous) BTC civil war

• FORTH like syntax for OP_BEGIN, OP_UNTIL
• Doesn’t create any new functionality
• Simply allows more efficient (& easier to reason about) expression of existing functionality
• Seems to be fairly non-controversial, likely to get approval for 2026
• Already implemented in BCHN? Along with the others?

Pay to Script (P2S)

• CHIP-2024-12: Pay to Script
• Makes non-standard Pay To Script outputs standard, alternative to P2SH
• These “transparent contracts” are readable by everyone, slightly space saving
• Improves wallet safety?
• Also raises token commitments 40 > 128 bytes, unlocking bytecode 1650 > 10 000 bytes
• Seems to be a little unknown, uncertain for 2026 approval

• CHIP-2024-12: OP_EVAL Function Evaluation
• Enables OP_EVAL to compress BCH scripts into reusable functions
• Is there any security risk here?
• Has seen the most pushback of the three CHIPs so far, notably the team at General Protocols
• Imaginary_Username is highlighting ability to mutate code

• Where is Tx v4? Isn’t there only currently 1, 2 & 3?
• Adds detached signatures & some other minor tweaks to tx format
• Zero overhead covenants?
• Fractional CashTokens/sats
• Very speculative at this point, needs significant clout/price improvement to justify the upgrade hassle - maybe 2027 or 2028?

1 minute blocks?

• Still research phase, but Bitcoin Cash Autist is proposing an adjustable blocktime, with a change to 1 minute of “ticks” (formerly, 2 minutes)
• Thoughts on the benefits:
• Faster confs for exchanges, DeFi use cases, lunar mining still ok
• Improved brand & recognition within crypto industry
• Could this negatively impact scaling or orphan rates?
• Reduce claim to “the real Bitcoin”?
