Location

  • Absolute location: 17° 51' S/ 25° 51' E
  • Relative location: north of Victoria Falls, north of Botswana, and in southern Zambia.

What’s it Like There?

  • Physical Features: Livingstone is home to one of the 7 wonders of the world-Victoria Falls. The Zambezi River feeds into Victoria Falls and creates the border between Zimbabwe.
  • Human Characteristics: Livingstone is the capital of the southern province of Zambia. Zambia has a Republic with the current president being Rupiah Banda.

Human Environment Interaction

  • Adaptation: The springs are hot and winter is mild but there is a large temperature difference between day and night. People have to bundle up at night and wear shorts and shirts in the day.
  • Modification: The people of Zambia have built a bridge across the Zambezi River with a highway to be able to see both sides of Victoria Falls.

  • Interdependence: Zambians use railways to ship goods through nearby countries. Also the people use the Transcaprivi highway/bridge to get across the river from Livingstone to Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe.

Movement

  • People: Most people that live here are African but there is a large Asian population. There is a lot of tourism in Livingstone due to Victoria Falls.
  • Goods: There is a large car manufacturer in Livingstone and they us the nearby forest to sell Timber. Their main exports are copper, cobalt, zinc, tobacco, maize, and emeralds.
  • Ideas: They have a Republic government with a president that they elect. Most people do not have electricity and their houses are western style.
