ILTS Right Start: An Overview

What is ILTS Right Start?

  • An online, self-paced test prep course created by the Illinois Licensure Testing System (ILTS)
  • These courses are new, and ILTS is continuing to develop them. Currently, there are ILTS Right Start courses available for the following licensure-seeking majors:
    • Early Childhood Education (ECE #206)
    • Elementary Education (ELE #305)
    • English Language Arts (#207; for Secondary Education- English majors)

Who would benefit from ILTS Right Start?

  • ECE, ELE, and Secondary- English majors who:
    • Already completed the Module for Test Prep in the NLU-provided Discover Course
    • Already attended or engaged with recordings of the Small Group Workshops to learn test-taking strategies
    • Already attempted the Content Test and scored below a 220 / 300 overall
    • Have identified multiple content area gaps in understanding and need a refresher

How does ILTS Right Start support students’ preparation?

  • Each course includes one module dedicated to each subarea of the particular exam.
  • Within these subarea-specific modules, the courses lay out key terms, pedagogical practices, and core content knowledge that teacher candidates will be expected to know for their Content Test.
  • Additionally, the courses include:
    • Test Information
    • Diagnostic & Practice Assessments
    • Study Tips

If you have already completed the Discover Course and wish to further prepare using ILTS Right Start, please email your advisor to inquire about an ILTS Right Start Voucher Code.

In your email, you should include:

  1. Your NLU N#
  2. The name of the Content Test you will prepare for using Right Start
  3. A screenshot of 100% completion of the Module for Test Prep in the Discover Course
