Last run of waitlist (must claim a seat by September 5 at 3:00 PM; you have 24 hours to claim a seat once you are notified that you have been awarded a spot)

Add/Drop deadline at 11:59 PM EST. Last day to drop without a grade of “W.”

STEM Eligibility

  • All students are required to take 3 credits of STEM-related courses from this approved list.
  • STEM certification will allow international students to extend their OPT from one year to up to three years. For American students, the benefits are smaller, but some jobs cite a preference for students with STEM degrees. You can refer to GHD as a STEM-certified program on your resume if you wish.

  • Am I taking a language class?
    • Intensive/not intensive?
  • Am I planning on picking up an internship?
    • If so, how many hours per week will I be working?
  • You will begin to work on your capstone project

Key Points to Remember

  • Complete 48 non-language credits in order to graduate
  • Automatically registered for core courses
  • Courses should generally be at the 5000-level or above, but some courses at the 4000-level are acceptable – ask Kristen
  • Balance of quantitative and qualitative courses
  • Back-up classes
  • Over-registration (up to 21 credits)
  • Ensure that you clear any holds on your account

GHD’s modules are generally indicated with section numbers 10 and 20 (01 for full-semester classes) – other departments number their courses differently, so pay close attention!

Language Classes

  • Find out what level you need to complete prior to proficiency exam
  • Check with the department on registration policies – may need to fill out an Add/Drop form
  • The French department requires a special form
  • Placement exam prior to first language class at GU
  • Must earn C or better in order to retain your language scholarship.
  • If you drop a class after the add/drop deadline, you will personally be responsible for paying the tuition for that class
  • Plan your proficiency exam strategically

  • There are no required courses within specializations (one exception is Humanitarian Crises and Displacement (all students must take Introduction to Humanitarian Emergencies))
