Introducing the Teacher and the Class

My name is Mr. S. Malouf and I am pleased to be your child Geometry teacher this year. My classroom is F-24. Besides Geometry, I teach Algebra 2. I teach two classes in the GTA Department; Algebra 2 and Geometry.

  • Students take Geometry class as Sophomores after taking Algebra 1. After Geometry, students can take select one from the following 3 courses:
  • Algebra 2, Algebra 2 Trig, or Data and Science
  • Here is the link that describes in details these 3 options: Geometry Presentation
  • In Geometry, we use the “Initiative Math” Curriculum. Here is the link to this curriculum: https://im.kendallhunt.com/HS/students/2/index.html
  • I am available to help the students before school 7:30 to 8:00 am, brunch, lunch, and during Tutorial time at the beginning of 6th and 7th period.
  • The Den is an after school collaborative tutoring center and homework lounge for students after school on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays. We provide snacks and beverages while students work in study groups and get help from teachers and tutors. The Den is a voluntary resource for students.
  • Best way to contact me is by email at smalouf@seq.org
  • In the following slides, you will find google slides created by my 2nd period Geometry students. These slides are a “show and tell” that describes the students reflections and experiences in Geometry course. Please enjoy

Pyramid Project:

  • For this project my group and i were tasked with finding the geometry in the Pyramid of Giza.
  • My job was to find the the angle in the pyramid of Giza

Something I found challenging:

  • Something that i found challenging converting radians to degrees and vise versa

Something that I enjoy:

  • The trig unit that we did earlier this year

Overview of what I have learned:

  • How to find the area, circumference, and angles of shapes

Something that I have accomplished this year:

  • This year I have accomplished the pyramid project for the 3rd quarter

What I Enjoy About This Class?

  • I like sitting with my friends and that we get to be independent most of the time

What Have I Learned This Year?

  • This year we have learned a lot about shapes and how to measure them with angles and such

What Have I Accomplished This Year?

  • I have been able to keep my grade moderately high and understand the lessons

One thing I found challenging about this class was the trigonometry that we learned but I overcame it by just asking questions about what we were doing and I soon go the hang of it. Along the way I have learned that for this class if you are stuck you need to ask questions or else you will fall behind if you do not understand.

The thing I enjoyed the most about this class was the projects that we made because we got to learn about things other than math.

This year I have learned many things but the favorite thing I have learned was circles because it was easy and fun.

I am proud that I have kept an a in this class the whole year.

Geometry period 2 2022

I’ve enjoyed:

  • The people & teacher
  • The projects
  • The time to relax

We’ve been introduced to many topics so far. Intro to algebra and circles, were my favorite. We’ve accomplished so much and the year hasn’t even finished yet!

Ashley Frias - 10th Grade

One thing that I found challenging was sine, cosine, and tangent when we first started to learn about them, but with multiple reviews it started to get easier and I enjoyed doing the problems.

Something I enjoy:

  • I enjoy the environment of this class because when someone is confused or needs help, other classmates help each other.

Overview of something I learned this year:

  • I learned how to find the arc, center angle, chord, radius and diameter of a circle.

Something I accomplished this year:

  • Something that I accomplished is that im passing the test and quizzes with good grade and im very proud that a learned a lot this year.

Michelle Haro- 10th Grade

One challenge i had was when we were learning about cosine, Hypotenuse and tangent. But as we processed I asked for help and Mr. Malouf helped a lot.

  • I enjoy this class when i understand the work we are doing. I've made a lot of friends in this class and i really like it.
  • I've learned about the area of circles and how to find it.
  • I passed with an a this past semester and i'm really proud of it.

Gicelle Contreras - 10th grade

A radius is when the line touches the middle of the circle and touches the circle. The diameter is when the line is fully cutting half of a circle and chord is a line everywhere in the circle.

  • I found the whole class challenging and how to do the work. I’m overing coming my challenges right now by getting tutor to help me understand. I still haven’t learn anything about myself.

  • I don’t enjoy many thing i just don’t like math but i'm trying my best.

  • I learn a lot of things but don’t remember a lot of things.

  • An accomplishment I’m proud of is actually passing this class.

In this class I found that dealing with circles was the most challenging to me, but eventually I overcame my challenge and am most proud of learning how to find different values in circles. One thing I have learned in this class along the way is that relationships may not be forever, but Mr. Malouf is.

The thing I enjoy most about this class is having Mr. Malouf as our wonderful teacher.

I am most proud of understanding difficult units in this class.

This unit I have learned a lot of different things, for example:

  • Quadrilaterals
  • Triangles
  • Parallel lines
  • Transformations

Proud Of:

I am proud of maintaining a good grade in this class all year. I was able to turn in all my work on time.

Challenges:

What I found challenging most about this class was the test and quizzes. I found the homework and classwork pretty easy but I had a difficult time with the tests.

Project:

For this project we had to create a model of the pyramids of Giza and to answer some questions. My job was to build a model of the pyramid of Giza. The rest of my group members answered questions online.

Something I found challenging about this class was the homework because I didn't have Mr.Malouf to help me at home. To overcome this challenge I came to tutorial to ask questions on homework. .

Something I learned about the class is I can always ask my classmates for help with a problem I don't understand.

What I enjoy most about this class is the environment. I am proud that I made new friends.
