The University of Tennessee, Knoxville’s Educator Preparation Programs received the distinguished honor of the 2021 Frank Murray Leadership Recognition for Continuous Improvement by the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP).

Grow Your Own/Pipeline Programs
Interns as paraprofessionals: In March, 2020, the Tennessee Department of Education announced a new “Grow Your Own” partnership between Knox County Schools and the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. The first cohort of Aspiring Teachers graduated in May 2021 and our second cohort of Aspiring Teachers are serving in schools now, projected to graduate in May 2022!
Paraprofessionals to Teachers: In October 2020 UT received a $100,000 grant from Tennessee Department of Education in October, 2020. This grant, combined with matching scholarship funds through CEHHS, is fully funding 7 teaching assistants to become licensed teachers in Knox and Shelby County Schools. These Aspiring Teachers will achieve teacher licensure in May 2022.
In 2021, UT received an additional $400,000 in funding from the Tennessee Department of Education to support additional paraprofessionals to become licensed teachers. This funding will support a cohort of 20 Aspiring Teachers from Blount, Knox, Monroe, and Shelby County Schools. These Aspiring teachers are being notified of their selection this week, will begin the program in Spring 2022, and will become licensed teachers in Spring or Fall 2023.
Tennessee Educators of Color Alliance - #CEHHS representation
The Tennessee Educators of Color Alliance has selected 12 Knox County Schools educators to participate in the inaugural cohort of its Tennessee Educators of Color Fellowship for the 2021-2022 academic year in Knox County.
Six members are alumni & current students from CEHHS!
National Distinguished Principal Honoree
Shay Siler, #CEHHS alumna and principal of Sequoyah Elementary, was recently honored in Washington, DC, as a National Distinguished Principal by the National Association of Elementary School Principals!
Recipients of this award are chosen for setting high standards for instruction, student achievement, character, and climate for the students, families, and staff in their learning communities.
UT Invited to Join EdPrepLab

Update to Partnership Agreements
Annual Reporting required to the DOE regarding our partnership agreements/MOUs
LEA and UTK maintain the shared goal to recruit and select candidates into professional education who represent the diversity of P-12 students in Tennessee and who are willing to be prepared to meet the diverse learning needs of Tennessee’s P-12 students (high needs endorsement areas).
The LEA and UTK additional maintain the shared goal to recruit and select candidates with the dispositions towards teaching in the district long-term, as well as the dispositions towards receiving dual licensure (in order to be a versatile teacher able to meet the staffing needs of the district as well as a highly prepared teacher ready to meet the learning needs of all students).
To achieve these goals, LEA and UTK have collaboratively developed the below strategies:
End of session feedback
