Question 1 - Tell us your journey and what initially interested you in hosting PGA Family Golf?

PGA Jr. League parents were asking what’s next and PGA Family Golf was an easy add-on that didn’t add too much of a lift to create an amazing experience.

Question 2 - How have you expanded your PGA Family Golf offerings since your first year of offering the program?

  • Created a par-3 contest and added glow golf
  • It was easy to expand with parents begging for more after hosting an event.
  • Call it the “family/child” so anyone can participate like grandparent, aunt, uncle, etc.

Question 3 - How do you market and spread the word about your PGA Family Golf events?

Uses the different databases from PGA Jr. League and all the different programs they offer at the club. Can be up to 500 families

Uses Juniors as the captain of the family to do the recruiting and gives ownership

Question 4 - Do you find that you see some “non-golfing” family members participate? Is this a good way to connect with potential new golfers in the family?

Yes, with the non intimidating format, others see what’s happening and are asking how to get involved.

It’s a safe environment for family members to help each other out.

Question 5 - What are the details of your event? How do you set up your golf course? What divisions do you offer? What prizes do you give out? What fee do you charge? What do you do for F & B?

Friendly set-up where families can get a lot of birdies.

Also, a setup that helps with pace of play so families aren’t out there all night.

Works with F&B to include a hot dog, chips, drink, cart and greens fee.

Entry fee of $100 which covers a tee gift for all the kids.

Always includes ice cream with events

Prizes for winners and pays a lot of places

Question 7 - What have you found to be the most important benefits of hosting PGA Family Golf? Member retention? Increased Revenue? Loyal customers?

Letting friend invite other friends so they can see what the programming is all about. That family then decided to join the club and joined the other programming being offered.

Uses TV throughout the club to highlight members throughout the day during an event.

Biggest benefit would be giving back.

Everyone wants more golf but we don’t have as much time so be able to host one FG event when time is short it feels as though it’s giving back and relationships built when time is so limited.

Question 8 - What advice would you give a pro that is considering hosting PGA Family Golf for the first time?

Don’t give up! Family Golf can be as big or as small as your want it. It’s ok to be nervous but lean on your peers and your PEC. It’s not as hard as you think

Question 9 - Is there anything that we haven’t asked you that you would like to share with the group today?

We do something called “Family Weekends” that might now be super busy at the club. Families book a their own tee time during these weekends and then send scores to Meg and she’ll score them when she’s back in the shop. Then she’ll send out the winners and give them something small from the golf shop. Meg didn’t have to be there, all she had to do was look at scorecards.

Question 10 - Were you aware that at the PGA Family Golf Championship that you as a PGA Member can play with your family? - (This question is for all attendees!) We can then elaborate on the opportunity.

PGA Family Golf Championship at Whistling Straits this coming Labor Day weekend
