Removing Barriers

We have an institutional value to embody the modern Research 1, Land-grant institution.

We strive to empower learners of all ages and backgrounds to achieve their goals and dreams through affordable and accessible education.

15 of 52

Removing Barriers - Accessibility

  • Online options for teacher and leader preparation and additional endorsements. All Job-Embedded Programs 100% Distance Ed.
  • Campus-based supports for campus-based learners
  • Schedules and programs to allow working professionals to complete educator preparation programs, including our paraprofessional to teacher programs and leadership programs.

16 of 52

Removing Barriers - Affordability

Traditional campus-based teacher education programs offered through both undergraduate and graduate year-long internship pathways to leverage undergraduate scholarship opportunities.

Options to complete teacher and leader licensure programs without quitting your existing teacher’s assistant or teacher position

Visiting Student options to allow high school students the opportunity to earn university credit in educator preparation courses without paying university tuition, and

Offering additional endorsements through both Microcredentials and tuition-based credit-generating programs.

17 of 52

Removing Barriers and Increasing accessibility does NOT mean a reduction in quality or high standards.

We will maintain our rigor and standards for preservice educators throughout all pathways into the classroom.

Partnership Announcements

  • Teacher Apprenticeship Programs with Department of Labor
    • LEA-driven Application Process - “Playbook” coming soon to assist.
    • This pathway requires strong partnerships: Employer/DOL/TDOE/UT
    • Let us know if you want to partner!
  • We will be asking or you feedback on several other partnership topics at the end of our meeting today.

22 of 52

We need your feedback!

Help us value the standards we should stress the most in teacher and leadership preparation:

  1. Alone or with a partner, read and discuss the standards you are given (you will be given one Teacher Prep standard and one Leadership Standard)
  2. Select the standards from your handouts that you believe to be the most important for us to stress at the pre-service level.
  3. Prepare to share your selected standards with the larger group in a few minutes, along with the rationale as to why you selected your standards.

What did we do with these data?

  • New Undergraduate programs designed as Internship Programs
  • Additional clinical experiences in new programs
  • Less focus on steadfast adherence to admissions requirements, more focus on supporting candidates through the preparation program
  • Expanding the JEP pathways (the Hybrid-Alternative model)
  • Additional quality assurance with expanding JEP enrollment

We need your feedback!

We need feedback on several topical items in educator preparation!

  1. This will be a “lightning round” gallery walk - three minutes per poster/prompt :)
  2. Pick a poster to start (spread out, please)
  3. Use the sticky notes or write directly on the posters to respond to the prompts.
  4. Move clockwise to the next prompt when the time is up!
  5. Stay safe - we don’t need this to become a super-spreader event!
