TEAM ATTENDANCE

Listed below are the standards for consideration in completing a season of cross country and being a part of the team:Athletes must be in good standing with attendance and no more than 3 total days absent, tardy, or leaving early from practices. After 3 marks, the athlete will be ineligible for a meet.

  1. An athlete missing/unable to run two days during a week may be ineligible for the meet.
  2. Athletes must be in good standing with the team and coaches by not being dismissed from practice for not meeting the team expectations.
  3. Athletes must be present at the entire meet during the course of the season.

By meeting the requirements and expectations, an athlete will be considered a part of the cross country team and will be able to complete the season. This is necessary for gym credit.

TEAM ATTENDANCE

EXAMPLES OF EXCUSED ABSENCES - ½ absence counted

1 )SAT/ACT Prep Course

2)  Drivers Education

3) Band / Orchestra Concert

5) Family celebrations (weddings, bar mitzvahs, anniversary parties…)

6) Orthodontist / Dentist / Doctor - please schedule around practice if possible

7)  College Visits

8) Leaving Practice early for another commitment

9) Detention

There are always things which come up. Please be aware of our schedule, as it is provided with plenty of time to look over your schedule. Cross Country, like other varsity sports, requires a daily commitment. In addition, your team is looking for you to be there as well.

We will continue to have our calendar out in May. Reminder, that all sports in OHIO begin on August 1st.

WHY ATTENDANCE?

  1. Varsity Sport
  2. Gym class is 40 minutes (XC practice 120 minutes). Missing one class is like missing 3 periods. So 3 misses is like 9 absences in one quarter from gym class (20% of a 45 day quarter)
  3. Being a part of a team means committing to being at every practice
  4. Last year we were below 90% for the first time in history.
  5. Athletes skipping practice consistently
  6. Gym credit

PRACTICE EXPECTATIONS

  1. Practices begin on time at the designated location. Your attendance is expected at every practice unless communicated by you to your coach at least 1 day prior. Regarding races, coaches should know 1 week prior.

***COMMUNICATING A MISS DOES NOT EXCUSE THE ABSENCE - IT IS JUST NOTIFICATION

  1. You will participate in training unless you have been provided a special program designated by the coaching staff or training staff.
  2. Unless discussed beforehand, coaches expect 100% effort at practice.
    1. Athletes in recovery or working with different training are expected to stay active, stretch, prehab during practice.
  3. Athletes should have mentally prepared and reviewed the practice goals for the week.
  4. Athletes are in acceptable gear: clothes, water, watch, towel, stretching materials.
  5. Athletes will run with their groups and work at set paces.
  6. During tough workouts or seeing a tired athlete, it is up to all of us to be a team member and encourage them on!

PARENTS AND COMPETITION

PARENTS –

  1. During the event – please leave athletes at the tent area.
  2. Athletes do cool down after their race. They will meet you after this.
  3. Do not touch athletes or interfere during the race. You can freely move about the course, but always watch where you are going.
  4. Please refrain from asking coaches for the sign out sheet until the team is dismissed. That is not why we are there.
