THE TROVANTS FROM BOZIORU

The Trovants of Ulmet – Bozioru: A Geological Marvel in Buzău Discover the intriguing ‘Babele de la Ulmet’ or ‘Trovants’ in Buzău, Romania, renowned for their peculiar shapes and speculated extraterrestrial origins. These geological formations, found in the Bâsca Chiojdului valley and other areas, resemble massive, grounded spacecraft. Despite extensive research, their growth mechanism—spontaneous, from the center outward at a rate of a few centimeters over thousands of years—remains a mystery. These nodular mineral aggregates, varying from millimeters to meters in size, cease growing once unearthed from sand. Since 2018, Bozioru Municipality has implemented an access fee to maintain the site, including parking, road repairs, signage, waste bins, public toilets, and informative materials. However, these amenities are yet to be fully realized. Visitors are advised to carry cash for the access fee and to be cautious, as heavy rains in early 2023 have destabilized some trovants, prompting authorities to establish safer, alternative routes.
