Jessica Gizzi’s
LEGO Elective
Showcase
After buying a large bin of LEGO bricks at a garage sale I decided to organize them into drawers that our new school had. I also did grants for more bricks and books to help students learn how to build with bricks.
Prior to starting my elective this year I had my classroom students create scenes from a story or recreate a life cycle since that was what we were learning about.
I work at a Magnet school that offers electives. I teach 2nd and 3rd graders and started my own electives using LEGO bricks. The next 2 slides show the descriptions for the electives.
We would start by using small kits I got from someone on Facebook Marketplace. Then we would use Build It books to learn how to find pieces and build something. Then they would create either a story setting or a simple machine.

LEGOS are EVERYTHING AWESOME!
Explore the enormous collection of LEGOs through science and be inspired! Imagine building simple machines that move and solve problems learned in EL Modules. Make a claim about how well their design solves the problems and support their claim with evidence about the problem and the reason(s) why their design solves the problem.
This year I started experimenting with Stop Motion videos. The students did an amazing job making their story come to life.
I also created Stop Motion Videos for instructions on how to create 2 pollinators that we used with Dash Robots to retell the steps of Pollination.
