Does how much water you add in a plant affect its growth?
Purpose
I want to learn if how much water you put in a plant affects its growth?
Hypothesis
If,I put 1 cup of water in a plant I think it will be too much and if I put 0 cups of water then it will be too little so I think that ½ a cup is what will make it grow taller.
Materials
- 9 mini tomato plants
- Half a cup and one cup measurer
- Sunlight
- Ruler or measuring tape
-Paper to record data
(P.S this is for 3 tests)
Procedure
First, I bought 9 plants and measuring cups. Then, I split the plants into 3 tests with 3 plants each using the same amount of sunlight. Next, I gave each plant a different amount of water every other day for 19 days. Through the process I took photos and I measured the plants and got my result.
(Note: all plants were initially 8 centimeters tall)
Data table
| 0 cup | ½ cup | 1 cup |
Test 1 | Grew to 13 centimeters | Grew to 14 centimeters | Grew to 10 centimeters |
Test 2 | Grew to 10 centimeters | Grew to 15 centimeters | Grew to 14 centimeters |
Test 3 | Grew to 12 centimeters | Grew to 18 centimeters | Grew to 13 centimeters |

Extra Notes
- Each plants were initially 8 centimeters tall
- I watered them every other day
- For 19 days
- And they each had different amounts of water
Conclusions
In conclusion, the answer is yes. Too little water or too much water can impact the growth of a plant.
Real world connections
This can help someone who is planning to grow a garden or just a plant. It will show that you do have to watch out how much water you put in a plant because too much will make it grow less and too little will too.
