What is BinaryTree?

BinaryTree is a 501(c)(3) non-profit based in the United States. Our goal is to bridge the global digital divide by providing access to technology education in underserved areas.

We provide high-quality, accessible technology education to students in countries worldwide, focusing on long-term impact, local empowerment, and community-building skills.

We believe digital literacy is a fundamental right — technology education should not be a privilege; it should be universal.

BinaryTree's Programs

BinaryTree has successfully run several courses to date. Topics covered include:

  • Digital Literacy
  • Introduction to Python
  • Fundamentals of Machine Learning

Each course is practical, engaging, and relevant to real-world applications. Students complete projects that demonstrate their understanding.

Our programs are free and open to students who want to pursue technology training. We prioritize communities where educational opportunities are most needed.

What is Technology Education?

Technology education is about learning how to use, understand, and create with computers and digital tools.

This includes skills such as:

  • Typing and using software
  • Coding and programming
  • Understanding how technology works

It helps people become active creators and problem solvers in the digital world — not just passive users.

Nowadays, almost all jobs, schools, and services use technology in one way or another. Without mastery of these tools, it becomes harder to succeed.

Technology education prepares individuals to thrive in the modern world by giving them the tools to:

  • Earn a living in a digital economy

The Digital Divide

The digital divide is the gap between those who have access to technology and those who do not — including access to devices, the internet, and digital skills training.

People who lack access are falling behind in education, work, and life prospects — especially in developing countries and rural areas.

BinaryTree strives to bridge the digital divide.

Basic IT Skills – Keyboard & Mouse

Keyboard

  • The keyboard is your primary tool for entering letters, numbers, and commands. Key keys: Enter (execute), Backspace (delete), Ctrl/Cmd (shortcuts like Ctrl+C to copy).

Mouse

  • Left-click to select, right-click to access context menus, double-click to open files and folders. The mouse lets you navigate your computer's interface.

Basic IT Skills – Operating Systems

Windows

  • Use File Explorer to access documents, images, and files.
  • Ctrl+C to copy, Ctrl+V to paste.
  • Go to Start > Settings to adjust display, sound, and Wi-Fi.

macOS

  • Use Finder to navigate files and folders.
  • Cmd+C to copy, Cmd+V to paste.
  • Apple logo > System Preferences to adjust settings.

Basic IT Skills – Web Browsers

  • Type a website address (URL) in the address bar and press Enter.
  • Use the plus (+) icon to open new tabs — switch between sites without closing the current one.
  • In the search bar (Google), type keywords and press Enter to find information.
  • Click links in search results to access websites.

Basic IT Skills – Word Processors

  • Open a word processor (Word, Google Docs) and select 'New Document.' Start typing immediately.
  • Use the toolbar to change font size, color, or style (bold, italic, underline), add headings and bullets.
  • Click File > Save to save to your computer. In Google Docs, your file saves automatically — share it with the Share button.

Basic IT Skills – Spreadsheets

  • Click a cell and start entering data. Cells are organized in rows and columns.
  • Use formulas to calculate — for example, =A1+B1 adds the values in cells A1 and B1.
  • Select data, then choose Insert Chart to visualize it as a bar or pie chart.

What is a Resume (CV)?

A resume is a one-page document summarizing your education, experience, and skills. It is used when applying for a job or internship.

A strong resume:

  • Answers the needs of a potential employer
  • Is clear, clean, and easy to navigate
  • Highlights relevant achievements so you stand out

Avoid cluttered layouts, flashy fonts, and excessive colors. Keep sections simple with regular spacing.

Resume: Contact Details & Summary

Contact Details

  • Include full name, phone number, professional email, and city. Ensure all information is accurate.

Summary / Objective

  • 2–3 sentence intro explaining who you are and what you are looking for. Tailor it to each position if possible.
  • Use professional, concise language. Avoid slang, emojis, and colloquial expressions.

Resume: Education & Experience

Education

  • List institutions, degrees, and graduation dates. Include distinctions, awards, or relevant courses.

Experience

  • Add job titles, dates, and key responsibilities. Focus on contributions and achievements, not just role descriptions.

Use bullet points with strong action verbs: 'directed,' 'created,' 'helped.' Be specific and concise.
