EXPLORING VENUS TOGETHER!- THE PROBLEMATIC ABOUT IT

The very first problem we found about exploring Venus was its chaotic environment Where the atmosphere can reach 460ºC and 93 bars of pressure, despite the fact of its atmosphere is composed of caustic chemicals which make the mission even harder.Since we realized the situation of Venus, we thought that the most common sources of energy wouldn’t work correctly on the planet. So, we started from this point: What sources of energy are viable and reliable in such situation?

WICH PATH DID WE CHOOSE TO SOLVE THIS PROBLEM?

  • •First thing we searched was the ways that energy can exist like electric, Kinect, mechanic, elastic, etc.
  • So, we tried to figure out which one would offer fewer risks while it would resist the conditions presented in Venus. After research, we realized that if we use a mechanic and elastic energy, we wouldn’t face problems that other types of energy storage would face like the thermal and the chemical, that would have to adapt to Venus’s environment.

WHY NOW?

  • With the big population increase in the last years we should consider that in the future the Earth population will get to a point that the resources present in our planet will not be able to sustain all the population, so we must start to think about turning other planets our home, so it’s necessary to research planets that are viable to live and ways to turn viable the ones who aren’t.

PRODUCT

After research, we decide to use springs to store energy and winds To recharge the system. In our Project, the propellers(1) would capture wind energy and Transfer it to a gear(2) that would be connected to a rope (4) that Would pull the box with alternators(6) into the springs(5) and Compress them. By compressing the springs (9) energy will be stored in this system, Since the springs are fully compressed a sensor(7) will capture this Information and push a lock to hold the system so the springs are holden compressed. When the system where the storage is installed asks for energy the sensor will emit a message and pull the lock so The springs will be released and then the energy from the Decompression will be passed to the alternator who will transform The spring energy into electric energy, after that this energy will pass Trough an electric current regulator(8), and then the energy would be provided to the system where the storage is installed. Our second source of energy will be a CO2 battery that will be used At the first moment of landing while the rover doesn’t capture the wind Energy and in case the other system fails.

FUTURE PLANS

  • Since the spring system is composed of multiple springs it’s possible to increase the number of springs to store more energy even thought it would be necessary to consider the increase in the weight which could increase the energy to move the system with it was applied in a mobile application.
  • Another option is to find a way to use the CO2 present in Venus’s atmosphere to recharge the CO2 batteries.
