    • Get a piece of paper and pencil or use your computer to type
    • Imagine you are applying to work at the Krusty Krab (Squidward has quit his job and Mr. Krabs is looking for someone to take his position.)

Step 1: cover Letter header (contact info)

    • Include your full name (first and last), your city and province, phone number, email, and LinkedIn
    • After your info, put the date (today’s date or the date you are applying)
    • Include the employer’s address

Step 2: The perfect salutation and introduction

    • If you’re unsure of their name you can begin by writing “Dear Hiring Manager”
      • However, it’s always best to use their name if it’s available
    • Introduce yourself
      • Describe who you are
    • Also important to include:
      • Position you’re applying for
      • How you heard of the position/company
      • One sentence about why you want the job or fit the role
      • Availability

Step 3: how do you fit the job description?

    • You need to explain why you are the perfect fit for the Krusty Kraft
    • What makes YOU unique from other applicants?
      • How will you working for this employer benefit them?
    • Provide a brief summary of your relevant experience/qualifications

step 4: why do you want to work there?

    • Explain why you want the Krusty Krab to be your place of employment
    • Describe why you’re interested in this position and company
      • Show your potential employer that you’ve done your research and that you value them
      • What can you bring to the company that adds value to their work?

Step 5: Closing

    • Indicate that you are available for an interview and remind them how they can reach you (email & phone)
    • Thank them and show appreciation for their consideration & time
    • Sign off with an appropriate salutation & your last name,
      • For example; Kind regards, warm regards, sincerely, etc.

Final reminders:

    • ALWAYS make sure to review for typos or grammatical errors!
      • This might seem obvious but, many people often forget and it makes a poor impression on potential employers
      • Use spell check/or ask someone to review for you
    • May 1-2 pages
      • Most employers spend less than a minute going through your resume/cover letter
    • It’s always great to follow up with an employer if you haven’t heard back from them within a week (as long as they haven’t indicated otherwise)
