We need adult riders/coaches!

  • Similar to how NICA teams run, we need adult leaders of all abilities to ride and coach with us.

  • If you are a parent that would like to ride with us and even help coach, we could use your help! Let Adam or Randall know if you are interested!

How is it different from NICA

  • This is not a competitor to NICA. It is an additional, year-round experience meant to prepare and develop and support riders who want to raise their abilities and compete both within and beyond NICA racing.

  • This is similar to other local clubs in Utah such as Maybirds, Aspire, etc.

  • While there will be some overlap between our club and NICA teams/seasons, we do not compete, but supplement the NICA season by working with youth to build plans for workouts and racing that fit their specific goals/needs. Practice time will largely be replaced in June by NICA practices. We will continue to provide workout plans throughout the year.

  • This is NOT 1:1 coaching, but it will provide a lot of what you would get from a 1:1 coaching situation. It is club based, so like NICA, we practice together both in practices and where possible, on workouts.

Who can join?

Requirements

  1. You must have completed 1 full NICA season, or equivalent demonstrated MTB experience and skill level
  2. Min going into 8th-12th grades in Fall of 2024
  3. You must provide your own appropriate level bike and appropriate equipment for riding

Exceptions to these above requirements are to be given at the discretion of the coaches and club director.

Suggested

While anyone can join who fits the above criteria, it is most viable for those living in Saratoga Springs, Lehi, and Eagle Mountain. Others are certainly welcome, but it will be more difficult because a lot of our practices/rides (especially early in the year) will be in the Saratoga & Eagle Mountain areas. This is because that is where we will have best access to dry and accessible trails.

PRACTICE PHILOSOPHY

We believe that all practices should be purpose driven, deliberate, and be F.U.N.

  1. FOCUS- Always have a plan & be organized- Have a purpose/reason - and communicate it.
  2. UNPLANNED/UNSTRUCTURED- Be open to the unplanned, spontaneous. Don’t be so rigid/structured that the spontaneous doesn’t happen. Leave room for, and be open to unexpected opportunities, going off the beaten path, and trying new things.- Use games to allow for this within a structure and with purpose. Games and teach skills and fitness without the awareness kids have of the “hardness” of things. Plus, it builds relationships, competitive fire, and team.
  3. NATURAL- We work with our strengths. We work with the trails and resources we have, we build confidence on things we’re naturally good at, and we use that confidence to overcome weaknesses.- We know and coach to our “psychology”.

FAQ

Q. Do we have to go to any or all of the races?

A. No. You can choose which races to compete in. We will work with you to develop a race plan for the season so you can do a set of races that fits your desires and your time and financial budget.

Q. Will this conflict with NICA?

A. No. once NICA seasons begin, the expectation is that you will ride with your NICA team for practices. We will continue to provide a training plan and support and race together at other race series during the summer.

Q. Will there be group travel to practices or races?

A. By default, there will not be travel provided by the team. However, we will help coordinate travel and there will likely be options/opportunities for carpooling to locations. At times, we might workout group travel, but it will be decided upon by team coaches depending on the number of people traveling, etc. In these circumstances, we will inform you of options and the cost of those where necessary.

Q. Do I need to buy the club race kit?

A.No. It is recommended, but it will not be required. However, you will be required to wear a team branded shirt - which could include your practice tee, which will be included in your team fee.

CLUB PURPOSE/VISION

At a very basic level, the club was created to help provide an organized structure to enable kids in the community to learn and grow while biking.

Our initial model was Durango Devo (Durango, CO) - a town/area with only about 25,000 people, they serve more than 600+ kids each year and achieve more than 1,100 registrations a year! They serve kids from 2 years old on strider bikes to U19 competitive groups that travel to compete at national races.

Key modifications to the Durango model are:

  • More club type activities (meaning more free stuff)
  • More community based events and activities
  • Our own local flavor and interpretation to things

The idea is to provide an accessible, tiered opportunity for kids in our communities to gain a lifelong love and habit of riding bikes for health, fun, and relationships, to connect people to their local environment and take advantage of our local geography for community improvement.

It is not our goal to compete against other opportunities, but to add to, fill gaps, and provide unique experiences at in a socially and economically inclusive, accessible way.

CLUB PURPOSE/VISION

From the "About" page on the website:

The Lake Mountain Bicycle Club (LMBC) was founded in the Fall of 2020 in Eagle Mountain, UT.  We wanted to create an organized structure and supportive environment for kids to learn, progress, and enjoy riding bikes together. This includes helping the smallest of kids start biking, to supporting more advanced youth athletes who are wanting to compete at higher levels. Our goal is to build a club that is considered one of the premiere community bike clubs in the country, and a model for others.

The mission of LMBC is to develop individuals, in group/team settings, into life-long advocates, participants, and supporters of biking through skill building, training, education, friendships, and events.

We believe that in riding together and working hard to improve our skills/abilities, we can create real, positive change in the lives of all involved, with both riders and coaches. It creates bonds with each other, creates a love for the outdoors, a sense of responsibility and stewardship for our earth and our health, and teaches us that we can do hard things and obtain joy from doing them. In the end, this is about becoming.
