• Why do ELA scores look so different in lower elementary than the other grades?

• SAT-EBRW Scores continue to be above or at state/county levels, but how do we get back to pre-COVID scores?

• SAT-Math scores continued a downward trend despite state/county staying the same or increasing - how do we begin to change this trajectory?

• M-Step Science and Social Studies scores have been the same or better than pre-COVID scores, how do we continue to improve?

Secondary - ELA

Pros:

• Continue to be at or above state and county levels in terms of SAT Score for EBRW
• %Proficient and advanced has been above state and county levels 7 years.

Potential Concerns:

• EBRW Scores are still below pre-Covid levels - this is a state and county concern as well.

Next Steps:

• Remodeled MICIP plans to address learning loss and getting students comfortable with state assessment (secondary)
• Have already provided ELA courses opportunities to look at the new digital SAT and setup
• Continue to look at articulation among PLC’s and grade levels at the secondary level.

Secondary - Math FHS

Pros:

• Aside from 22-23, we have been fairly consistent with state and county trends.
• We remain, as we have historically, a divider in terms of north and south Macomb in terms of scores.

Potential Concerns:

• 22-23 continued a post-COVID downward trend in math score and proficiency despite state and county remaining the same or increasing.
• FHS, state, and county scores are all well below pre-COVID scores.

Next Steps:

• Held a math data day to analyze this data and consider possible items to focus on:
• Student engagement has been very low in math post-COVID
• Portions of the curriculum were not covered as fully with the past three years’ cohorts as they suffered much learning loss from the COVID experience.
• The department previous to COVID had SAT “Bootcamp” two weeks prior to the test. The implementation of a new curriculum changes that.
• Post-Covid, a large portion of students were not doing work on time as the CBE model allowed them to assess throughout the whole semester. This caused a great deal of students to be behind and struggle to catch up.

• The math department has dedicated to 3 goals decided at the data day:
• Incorporate continual SAT strategies and practice (have met twice after school to work on this)
• Define methods of engagement among the PLC and monitor its effectiveness.
• Sprial most common math topics from SAT within the levels of courses.

• Begin to use more prescriptive resources from enVision in the Tier 3 courses.
• Redesigned CBE grading process to allow for interim assessment deadlines to help students stay on pace.
• Align practices 7-12
• Utilize our math instructional coach in focused observation cycles.

Pros:

• Scores are steady and comparable to state and county levels
• Post-COVID scores are above or at pre-COVID scores

Possible Concerns:

• Avoiding a dip while transitioning to a new curriculum
• Math 8 scores are steady; however, they are lower, generally, than Math 7

Next Steps:

• Getting the RMS math team trained in the new curriculum
• Utilizing our math instruction coach to do focused observation cycles and help keep continuity vertically and horizontally
• Continual focus on engagement practices to keep the positive trend going

Secondary - Science/Social Studies

Pros:

• Scores are at or better than pre-COVID numbers.
• Almost all levels have 2 years of positive trends
• Closing gap with state and county.

Possible Concerns:

• How do we make sure we maintain the positive trends of the past two years?

Next Steps:

• Begin stages of looking at a curriculum for the science department to have a tighter clear and viable curriculum.
• RMS SS has continued its integration of Discovery Education curriculum
• FHS will continue to focus on performance tasks integrated into their units of study with a focus on the C3 and NextGen frameworks;
