Doors will open at 8:30 am, bell to start classes at 8.40am. If you arrive and we are not in class, check the oval for daily fitness or our timetable to see where we are.

We appreciate your support in getting your child to school as close to 8.30am as possible.

Your child is not to arrive before 8.20am unless they are attending a school event such as running or dance club. If you need to drop your child earlier than this, they will need to wait in the main courtyard where they can be supervised.

Our aim is to encourage students to be independent young people, and this begins with preparing themselves for the day. This includes carrying their own school bags, homework folders, any notes and collecting their own chair.

3DEL TIMETABLE

  • We use these to help students fully understand what is being asked of them so they can succeed in showing their learning.

  • We help them to know where the goal posts how without telling them exactly how to kick it!

  • Students can then check against these to see where they need to improve.

LEARNING INTENTIONS AND SUCCESS CRITERIA

  • Making Jesus real (MJR) is a practical and activity-based programme designed to foster a relationship with Jesus that is real to the students and relevant to their daily lives.
  • MJR is centered around the belief that we are the image of Jesus to all people around us.
  • We are his representatives, and our actions should reflect his values taught in the gospel.
  • Jesus told us that we are all part of his family and that the way we treat others should be reflective of the way we would treat him.

MAKING JESUS REAL

URstrong’s Friendology 101 is a skills-based social and emotional learning program that helps build children’s skills in fostering and maintaining healthy friendships.

It is a program that aims to assist children in years 1-6 in developing the skills, language and self-confidence to be better friends and develop a solid foundation for future healthy relationships.

We use the language of this program to help the students navigate their friendships in a respectful and positive way.

We have also introduced this week a Check In Diary – the students are asked to use the Zones of Regulation to see ‘how their engine is running’.

They are able to indicate which zone they are in and possibly why, if they know and then indicate if they would like a teacher check in throughout the day.

  • The keeping safe child protection curriculum is an important programme that helps students to develop awareness and skills around protective behaviours.

  • The main themes of this program that are covered in Year 3 are teaching the students the correct names for body parts, identifying people on their trust wall and tuning in to the warning signs their body gives them when they are feeling unsafe.

  • We would love to see you engaging with our teaching content through seesaw and attending school events when you are able.

  • You are welcome to come into class throughout the week to check out what we have been up to.

  • Please remember that this is a busy time, and we are getting everyone sorted so we may not always have time to chat!

  • We believe that it is important that children take responsibility in their learning.

  • Please encourage them to be responsible for their homework, as well as, packing their belongings ready for each day.

PARENTAL SUPPORT

  • We encourage your family to be on time to class as best you can – this means arriving NO earlier than 8.20am where possible and waiting to be welcomed into class…sometimes there are meetings or important conversations happening between colleagues before school starts.
  • Please remind your child that knocking, kicking or banging on the door, calling to be let in and opening the door aren’t acceptable behaviours.
  • Students are not permitted to play around the school grounds before school – they are to gather in the main Courtyard where they can be supervised.
  • Additionally, if you are hanging around after school – your child is to observe all regular school rules on the equipment.

SEESAW

This is now OLC’s formal reporting format that we are implementing over the year to give you an insight to your child's achievement.

This is, so you as a parent are informed of your child’s learning in real time and it will allow you to celebrate their success and provide you with an opportunity to work towards their goals at home as well as at school.

Don't forget you can have both parents or any family members (eg. Grandma) access your child's Seesaw account and that you can access directly with the Seesaw Family app on your phone, device or computer.

A copy of your family code was sent home last week – please let us know if you are unable to access your child’s journal.

HOMEWORK

In line with the new OLC Homework format – students in Year 3 are asked to complete the following and bring this in ready to be check on Friday morning.

Students are to complete a Reading Log over the week and then choose one question per night from the list glued into the front of their book to answer – these questions work with any book!

Please make sure that you sign this at the end of the week.

They are also asked to complete some simple maths operations questions; these will increase in difficulty and variety over the year.

Homework is due in every Friday.

We will also set up our books ready for the next week!
