CURRICULUM
GREETINGS!
The purpose of this presentation is to share information about your child’s learning this school year. We will review key skills that students learn in fourth grade and the materials and methods for learning.
MATH
Number Corner
Number Corner features daily 20-minute workouts that introduce, reinforce, and extend skills and concepts related to the critical areas of study at each grade level. Number Corner front-loads the math concepts coming up in future units!
WorkPlaces
WorkPlaces are math stations and games that offer ongoing practice with key skills. WorkPlaces allow us to differentiate each activity to address students’ needs for additional support or challenge.
Bridges
Bridges blends direct instruction, structured investigation, and open exploration. The program taps into the intelligence strengths of all students by presenting material that is as linguistically, visually, and kinesthetically rich as it is mathematically powerful.
In fourth grade, students will:
Fourth grade uses the Bridges in Mathematics Curriculum, which includes these components:
ELA
Comprehension
Students will read a variety of literature and informational text. They will use strategies including graphic organizers to respond to the text.
Writing
Students will construct written responses to texts they read. They will conduct short research projects and write narratives.
Word Study
In order to become strong readers and writers students need to understand the meaning of words. Students will learn to break words down into prefixes, suffixes, and roots/bases to understand what words mean.

Fourth grade uses Magnetic Reading and Morpheme Magic which includes these components:
Science
Students will study these topics using a variety of methods including hands on STEM activities, learning teams, SuperSTEM magazine, Problem Based Learning, and Engineering and Design Process.
