Preparation

Spend time familiarising yourself with the Level Four Blackboard organisational site and your current module sites
If you are unsure of where to find anything not module specific, this site is the first port of call, otherwise contact your named academic advisor in the first instance, or ask your peers

Some tasks will be set by staff and identified as pre or post session work on blackboard, other work will be consolidating learning or reading in advance of sessions

Practice Education:We offer a range of experiences in a variety in different clinical and non clinical areas where students will develop a range of key skills reflecting the role and career of a physio.

Location: The majority of our placements are in and around Sheffield and South Yorkshire, North Derbyshire and Lincolnshire. Our placement area goes north up to Wakefield, East to the coast (Grimsby, Skegness and Derby South). Students are expected to complete 1 live away placement during the entire course where they are supported to find suitable accommodation. Live away placements students are placed where possible with peers for support.

Hours: 5 practice experiences in total - 1 x L4 (5 weeks), 2 x 6 weeks in L5 and 2 x in L6 (7 weeks and 8 weeks) .Placement is full time work - around 37 hour per week which is flexible around the service you will be working in - ie may include some work early/late shifts or at weekends, some online and some face to face learning and also self directed learning.

Self Source Option: We may be able to arrange placements outside of our typical placement area which students have sourced themselves, we look at these on an individual basis.

Funding: funding is available for expenses incurred and can be claimed back. Information can be found via the SHU student finance team and our placements team

Support:Clinical educator on placement, Academic Advisor and work based coaches & student support from University. Peers you are on placement with - you may likely be placed within a team or department with other physio students.

Consider second hand anatomy books
Remember the reading list online (RLO) for each module
Make use of gaps in your timetable for self-directed learning on campus
Join the CSP as a student member
Be as organised as possible to keep on top of workload (assessment deadlines and pre/post session reading)
Make use of your academic advisor proactively
Consider joining the Physiotherapy Society
