It is the increase in the average height of the ocean’s surface, mainly caused by melting ice and the expansion of seawater as it warms due to climate change.

It is the long-term alteration of temperature and typical weather patterns in a place, mainly causedby human activities like burning fossil fuels, which increase greenhouse gases in the atmosphere.

The Vaquita

1) the rarest marine mammal on Earth,

2) lives only in the northern par, of the Gulf of California, Mexico,

3) fewer than 20 vaquitas are left in the wild,

4) the biggest threat to them is accidental capture in fishing net,

5) conservationists are working to ban dangerous fishing practices and create safe areas for the vaquitas,

6) if these efforts do not succeed, the vaquita could become extinct within a few years.

The Great

Hammerhead Shark

The great Hammerhead shark is endangered mainly because of the overfishing, many fishermen hunt these sharks for their fins, which are used for a common soup in Asian countries.

In addition, pollution and climate change have also affected their habitats. Scientists are calling for new laws to protect sharks.

If more people become aware of the importance of these sharks, there will still be hope for them.

  • The blue whale is to largest animal on Earth.

Why the whale is endangered?

  • Because people hunted them for their oil, meat and bones.
  • They face threats from ship strikes, noise pollution and climate change.
  • Melting ice affect their food (krill).
  • We can help them by supporting marine conservation programs for future generations.

The Hawksbill Sea Turtle

  • one of the most endangered sea turtles in the world
  • it can be found in tropical oceans, near coral reefs
  • their shells are used for jewellery and decorations
  • hunting, habitat loss and climate change had influenced their numbers to drop
  • conversations programs focus on protecting their nesting beaches and stopping illegal hunting
  • we can help by not buying products made from turtles and suppport organizations that protect sea animals

What can we do to protect the sea, its animals and plants?

  • Sea reservations: creating areas where fishing, industrial use, mineral extraction and shipping are completely prohibited
  • Awareness: making people aware of problems of endangered sea animals
  • Animal products: avoiding products made from animals
  • Laws: calling for stronger protection laws
  • Pollution: reducing sea pollution
  • Cleaning: taking participation in beach clean – up
  • Plastics: reduce the amount of plastic packaging, plastic bags
