A positive correlation between DOC and sulfate, calcium, total iron, PCP in the HR groundwater.

Divalent cations (Ca2+, Mg2+) abundant in the HR groundwater interact with phenolate and carboxylate functional groups in DOC at alkaline pH.

The essential building blocks of non-labile C were concentrated into molecular weight (MW) fraction II (900 – 1800 Da). The DOC source in all groundwater was identified as autochthonous (fluorescence index>1.8).

Highlights of this JRDC cooperation

  1. Flagship of science & technology cooperation project between China and Sri Lanka, aiming at providing safe drinking water and tackling CKDu.
  2. A novel successful cooperation model, and long-term and comprehensive cooperation. All partners of both China and Sri Lanka make great contribution to this successful cooperation.
  3. Capacity of water treatment and research in Sri Lanka is greatly improved, i.e., water quality analysis, water supply technology, through cooperation.
