Background Knowledge

To understand about origami, we need to first talk about what it is. Origami is a form of arts. Art is divided into 2 categories, Performing Arts, and Visual Arts. Origami is in fact in the category of Visual Arts.

Background Knowledge

Origami is an art about folding, paper folding. Origami actually can make you feel calmer if you do the steps correctly. The rewarding feeling of finishing an art piece really can make you happy, but on the other hand, if you have difficulties in doing it, you might instead get incredibly frustrated.

Background Knowledge

Long long ago, Origami was in fact not a type of art. It was instead used as wrapping paper for sacrifices for temples. After Origami was an art, people believed that folding 1,000 paper cranes could grant you a wish. People believed that the first paper crane was made to get rid of demons. It was believed that when you blow air into the crane it makes the demon stuck and trapped in it.

Background Knowledge

Is one of the first known people making origami was a girl named Sadako Sasaki, who made a paper crane. She was hoping for the paper crane to make her life longer since she had a disease caused by wars. A nuclear bomb was dropped near where she lived, and due to the radiation she developed blood cancer known as Leukemia.

Background Knowledge

Origami is meant for all ages so anyone could start making easy origami models, whether they are still young or already incredibly old. The simplest form of origami is the paper itself, since your perspective can be different. An example is folding it into a triangle and from your perspective it could be a mountain or it could be something else.

Background Knowledge

When people first do origami they tend to make more simple creases and structures, but as time goes by the person gets more advanced and the techniques get more complex. To design an Origami design the designer needs to visualize the lines and creases and structure before they really create the origami itself.

My PYPx Journey, The Pre-Survey

  • Make questions about origami
  • Ask the ICT teacher her schedule
  • Let some kids fill in the survey to see if they know what origami is or not
  • Ask all the classes I want to ask

Personal Comment:

I really wish that I would’ve managed my time more wisely. Other than that, at the beginning I thought maybe PYPx was simple or straight forward. But I was really wrong. I might’ve hated it but after finishing it, doing it, the journey, I feel like I myself have accomplished something and honestly, just a feeling of pride in myself.

Reflection

Like I said, I do regret not managing my time wisely but, I must say I did get some fun out of this project. I will try my best to manage my time in the near future as a reflection of the PYP Exhibition
