All data has been compared statistically where necessary using a 95% confidence level (2 tailed).

2 layers of statistical comparison have been applied:

  1. Comparing the PRE intervention evaluation data to the POST intervention evaluation data
    • Any positive changes where the data has increased significantly is shown with
    • Any data points which have decreased significantly have been shown with
    • This applies to both total data and across demographics (gender, age, and race groups)

  • In both the Pre- and Post-Intervention sections respectively, the demographic data of each section has been compared against each other to show if certain demographic groups have a stronger or weaker sentiment to a specific metric. The has been denoted by GREEN shading indicating a significantly higher % and RED shading indicating a significantly lower %.

In the Post-Intervention wave conducted in Jan’24, the most prominent media forms used by Pellsrus residents to access information include Television (65%), WhatsApp (61%), and Facebook (56%). Television use amongst the 35+-year-old-age group is significantly higher (76%), in comparison to the Pre-Intervention wave (60%).

In the Post-Jan’24 wave, Pellsrus residents mainly separate cans (70%), plastics (64%) and glass (54%). 42% deposit their recyclables at recycling centres or bins and 12% donate their recyclables to a charity or school – this is significantly lower in comparison to the Pre-Oct’23 wave (32%).

FOCUS OF THE LOCAL RECYCLING RELATED PROJECTS- NOORSEKLOOF

Of those who said yes when asked if they have seen any recycling-related projects in their area, 75% remembered what the projects were about. The projects were mostly about collecting glass, plastic and paper (64%) and recycling in exchanged for a token to buy food or stationery (13%).
