Geopark Barrandien �Lost Seas in the Heart of Europe�

The launch of the project brought a lot of questions to which we tried to find answers, some of which we do not know yet.

The basic question was: How to grasp the territory?

People has many opinions: Too large! X Too small!

Why is this included? X Why it is not included?

​

A thousand questions, a thousand answers and you can always find a BUT.

​

The establishment of our geopark has the following phases:

  • Building phase - start, creating single-purpose cooperation
  • Growth phase - strategy development, information and reservation services
  • Concentration phase - strategic management, creating a marketing strategy, helping to develop infrastructure

The main task of the geopark is:

  • Field exploration, discovery, interpretation and presentation of the geological and paleontological past in relation to geological processes and events.
  • The development and promotion of sustainable tourism while maintaining the rules of sustainable tourism.
  • Presentation of the territory of the Barrandien Geopark in terms of Czech history and the historical development of its landscape.
  • Development, promotion and support of regional products.

ice, where we had to get to know a lot of things about the geopark.

We didn't go through anything that other geoparks have gone through.

The most important part is securing funding for geopark activities.

Constantly explaining what a geopark is.

In doing so, we have gained confidence that it will never end.

Risks and their solutions

Geopark Barrandien – 4 GEON

  • Mission:

To spread geoscience knowledge and geo-interpretation skills among local and indigenous people living in geoparks and let them enjoy the local Earth heritage

  • Vision:

The local and indigenous communities started to use the novel concepts of playful geo-education.

The general public is being involved through a user-friendly geoportal which explains, how geology relates to the life of local people – accurately, enjoyably and in their own tongues. Playful courses combining digital and outdoor activities let youths understand and cherish stones, rocks and wildlife around them, connect with their traditions and heritage, identify risks and challenges their environment is facing and propose meaningful solutions.
