The Role of Your School Counselor

• Your school counselor is here to support you with your academics, social emotional health and post secondary planning.
• We help you adjust to high school expectations (transitioning from MS)
• We guide you in selecting classes that fit your goals
• We keep you informed about opportunities and programs (including scholarships)
• We assist you with long‑term planning such as college and careers (Scheduled individual meetings junior year)
• You will have the same counselor for all 4 years at Metro!

What Is a High School Transcript?

• Your transcript is an official record of your academic journey.
• Lists every class you take
• Includes your grades for each course
• Shows your GPA (Grade Point Average)
• Tracks credits earned toward graduation (28 required - minimum of 7 per year)
• Shows attendance each year of high school

Why Your Transcript Matters

• Your transcript plays a major role in your future opportunities.
• Colleges/Trade Schools review it when you apply
• Scholarship committees use it to evaluate eligibility
• Employers may ask for it when hiring
• Shows your growth and commitment from freshman year forward

How to Build a Strong Transcript

• Start strong—every year counts!
• Attend classes consistently & be on time!
• Stay organized and complete assignments on time
• Ask for help when needed
• Challenge yourself with appropriate classes
• Take advantage of after school tutoring Tues-Thurs

Metro is special!

• We offer a full college preparatory program
• We offer 20 college level courses
• We have a small family atmosphere
• We offer after school tutoring Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday (includes food and a bus pass!)
• We have social emotional help if you need support
• We offer many after school activities
• We offer multiple leadership opportunities
• We have 4 comprehensive pathways

Four Pathways at Metro

Pathways align with future majors in college, ideas for trade schools, and career goals

Metro's Pathways:

• Law, Leadership and Political Science
• Education and Leadership
• Business and Communication
• Digital Media and Technology

What does my Pathway offer me

• Two electives per year in that career field
• A smaller cohort of students with similar interests
• Knowledge for college and careers that will make you stand out
• Deeper understanding of the all aspects of the subject area

When will you choose your Pathway? 

• In the second half of your freshman year, you will attend a grade level meeting to learn about each of our Pathways
• You will choose your top three Pathways based on your career interests
• Your school counselors will try to give you your first choice!!!

Graduation Requirements

​

• Earn 28 credits: -
• 4 English, 4 Math, 3 Science, 3 Social Studies, 3 World Language, 1 Art, 1 Technology, 1 Personal Finance, 1 PE, 1 Health, and 6 electives

​

• Complete an internship
• Complete a Senior Portfolio
• Complete 50 hours of community service

​

New Haven Promise Scholarship

for NH Residents

New Haven Promise Eligibility Requirements:

• You must be a New Haven resident & attend NHPS CONTINUOUSLY for at least grades 9-12.

​

• 90% attendance record or better. (Miss no more than 72 days in HS).

​

• Cumulative 3.0 weighted GPA or higher by high school graduation.

​

• Have a positive disciplinary record during high school (no expulsions).

• Complete 40 Promise-approved community service hours (non-profit in New Haven-after school at your former middle school, working after school at the library, soup kitchen, LEAP, New Haven Reads) over four years of high school.
