  • My mum’s mum. (I call her oma)

Challenges they faced along the way

  • Very hot (called the ship “tin can” because it was made of metal and it was very hot)
  • Sailed around cape town (very long and hot)
  • Oma’s mum was pregnant during the journey (very uncomfortable)

How they got to New Zealand

In 1980 she had my mum. In 1981 she and her husband figured they should move to New Zealand due to the intense heat and they had a baby to protect from potential dingo threats.

In conclusion war, famine, and oppression forced my ancestors to leave their homeland. The hope for safety, security, and opportunity drew them to a new home.
