McFarland-Sanger House

  • Town acquired significant antique house in 2005 to preserve it
  • Acquisition by town was required by Planning Board in conjunction with their approval of adjacent Deerfield Estates development
  • House has many great historical features
  • Future use of the house by the community to be decided based on town’s needs and suitability of structure

McFarland-Sanger House

  • Recent engineering study recommended 3 tiers of repairs to allow future use of structure
  • $100,000 is cost of doing some of the Tier 1 recommendations for purposes of safety and preserving structural integrity
  • CPC reduced proposed grant to $50,000 which is minimum amount to maintain the structure
  • Total cost of remaining recommended work (finish Tier 1 and Tiers 2 and 3) would be more than $150,000
  • The amount needed to repurpose the structure depends on its final use (to be determined)

McFarland-Sanger House Historical Features

  • House built in late 1700s with several additions and modifications over the years
  • One of only 10 structures in town that are this old (c1750 per MCRIS-Mass Cultural Resource Information System)
  • Rare example of a small house of this vintage still standing w/ minimal remuttling of interior
  • Location would have been prime real estate at the time of construction
