Safety

· 4 Basic Principles of Security in Garland ISD:

1) Positively engage all visitors at the campus: If someone is on the campus or in the school without a Raptor Visitor Badge or District ID, that person should be engaged by staff and escorted to the office for proper registration to the campus.

2) Sound the alarm: If something is seen or heard or discovered to be a risk to the safety of students, staff, and visitors to the campus, whoever discovers it should immediately tell someone in authority (any and all staff members are empowered to call 9-1-1 in a life-safety situation).

3) Teach with classroom doors closed and locked: Experience has shown that the risk of violence is mitigated by classroom doors remaining closed and locked.

Covering the classroom door window has been discussed with our police agencies. Each police agency is now in agreement that all classroom door windows should be covered at all times. Reasoning: If there is a lockdown situation in your school, you should not attempt to cover that window; “Locks, Lights, Out of Sight”

4) Respond to the greater threat: Always respond to that threat which is imminent (for example, if in lockdown and the fire alarm sounds, do not respond to the fire alarm unless the threat from the fire is greater than the reason for the lockdown).

Emergency Drills

What: Fire Drill and Hold in Place Drill

When: Thursday, September 17th, during 8th period

Who: All F2F and Remote students

How: Following social distancing protocols for F2F students. Fire drill protocol for remote students: The teacher will ask the remote students to turn off their camera and their mic.The teacher will return to the class after the fire drill and debrief with both sets of students.

Clean up Procedures

  • Students will clean their own desk before leaving class.
    • Paper towel
    • Sanitizer solution
      • Teacher will spray desks for students to clean each class period.

  • From Health Services:
    • Each employee will get a Sanitizing spray solution and either cleaning cloths or paper towels to clean classrooms and department spaces. These are refillable, so all you need to do is ask your custodian or secretary for assistance.

Attendance Update

Teachers are now able to see a new attendance code "F2F Present" in Skyward when they take attendance. The goal of the update is to assist campuses in better accounting for students who are present for Face to Face instruction, simplify reporting, and increase the accuracy of student coding.

Students who are present for Face to Face instruction must be marked ‘F2F-Present’. Teacher must begin using the code by September 16.

Teachers must mark a code for every student, every day. (Present F2F, Present Synchronous, Present Asynchronous, or Absent.)

Teachers must choose the type of instruction that the student received on the attendance date. This may vary from day to day or week to week.

The regular, default Present will not disappear from teacher options (unfortunately) but must not be used. (Choose presence by type of instruction or absent)

Here are some updated documents to aide in explaining the update:
