Attendance

  • Regular attendance is necessary if a student is to make satisfactory progress; therefore, students are expected to attend school regularly and should present a written or medical excuse upon returning to school after an absence.

  • A note from a parent/guardian, physician, dentist, or other recognized licensed/certified medical practitioner, or legal officer is required for each absence.

  • The note should be dated and must include the student’s full name, the date(s) of absence(s), the reason(s) for the absence(s), telephone number of the parent/guardian, and the signature of the parent/guardian.

  • This note should be given to the front office on the first day of the student’s return to school.

  • Absences from school are considered either lawful or unlawful.

  • Lawful absences will be given for personal illness, death in the family, serious family illness, religious holidays, or official school business.

  • All other absences will be considered unlawful.

9 of 26

Unexcused Absences

  • Administration or Guidance will intervene after 5 unexcused absences have been recorded or 3 consecutive unexcused absences have been recorded.

  • Parents will meet with administration/guidance about unexcused absences and be given an intervention plan to follow.

  • If the plan is not followed, the parent will be referred to the Anderson County Truancy Board.

Tardies and Early Dismissals

  • Any student who has not reported to his/her homeroom by 8:00am is considered tardy and should report to the office to sign in.

  • Any student who leaves school before 3:10pm without an excused reason will be considered as an unlawful early dismissal.

  • Early dismissal for students may not be granted after 3:00pm unless it is an emergency or medical documentation can be provided.

11 of 26

Arrival

  • Students should not arrive at school prior to 7:20am.

  • Students arriving after 7:20am each day can utilize the car rider drop off point (covered porch). Signs indicate it is the car-rider lane.

  • Students must exit from the passenger side in the right lane only.

  • Once students have exited the car, the driver must stay in line until the car in front of them pulls forward. For the safety of everyone, do not pull into the left lane in order to drive around other cars.

  • The car-rider doors will be locked at 8:00am. Students arriving after 8:00am will need to report to the main entrance to sign-in. They are considered tardy at this point.

12 of 26

Arrival

  • When entering the building before 7:50am, 6th grade students will sit outside of their homeroom.

  • You are expected to remain quiet during morning routines. No talking in the holding area. Students may be doing instructional activities on their chromebooks (with permission only) or read a book.

  • At 7:50am all students will report to their homeroom.

  • Students are expected to walk quietly into their homeroom.

  • Students need to be in their homeroom by 8:00am. Students are tardy if not in their homeroom by 8:00am.

  • Breakfast is served in the classroom each day and ALL students are encouraged to participate. BREAKFAST IS FREE FOR EVERYONE!

Dismissal Procedures (Car Riders)

3:10pm - 3:40pm

  • Parents picking up a student in the afternoon will need to fill in rows 1, 2, and 3 to the end of the median.

  • Parents need to use lines 4 (stay left) and 5 (stay right) with the beginning of those lines starting at the end of the median.

  • Traffic cones will be placed at the front of lines 1, 2, and 3 (please pull all the way to the front of the line).

  • Please stay in your cars. A teacher or administrator will come by to ask your child’s name and radio the teachers on the porch.

  • Refrain from using cell phones as the lines begin moving.
