Analogy of the Day

In Quarter 1 we covered the most common test question vocabulary words that you will find in the SBAC and ELPAC.

In Quarter two we are going to focus on Analogies which promotes vocabulary and critical thinking.

On Monday the Analogies will be pretty easy, but as the week goes on, the analogies become more challenging. Good luck!

This slide is for the teacher: Word Of The Day Switch Up to Analogy of the Day:

For q. 2 focus on analogies. Q. 3 will be “test prep for ELPAC and SBAC

The answer to the analogy will be in the bottom left hand corner of the slide in small font

Why Analogies?

People often wonder about the effectiveness of analogies. What do they teach? How do they work? Why are they so useful? What makes analogies so effective is their ability to get students to think critically. In order to answer an analogy question correctly, the student has to form a logical relationship, or "bridge" between two words. They must think about how the words are related. Since words represent particulars (not universals), there is a nearly infinite number of ways they might be related. It is the student's job to narrow this number, and focus on the most essential relation -- the most basic aspect of the word's function or definition

Bully Prevention Curriculum

Tuesday

In other words…

We use the word “bullying” a lot.

Bullying is when another person exerts their power over another on purpose. It’s not the same as having a problem, rudeness or conflict.

It happens for no good reason and occurs over and over again. No one deserves to be bullied. Although it is common, it should never be considered a normal part of life.

What is an ?

Tuesday

What is an ?

Tuesday

Becoming an upstander is about moving from silence to action.

Bystanders contribute to the problem.

Upstanders stop the problem.

Research shows that others speaking out or taking action stops bullying behavior over half the time within seconds!

What is an ?

Tuesday

How to become an UPSTANDER:

  • Help others who are being bullied.
  • Being called a “snitch” or a “rat” is the bully’s way of controlling you. Bullying is all about power.
  • Make friends outside your circle.
  • Stop untrue or harmful messages from spreading.
  • Refuse to be a “bystander”. When you see something wrong, help out or ask for help. Report anonymously if you need to.
  • Get others to stand up. Tell an adult who can help.
  • Never be a bully too by “bullying the bully.” We are better than that.

What is an ?

Tuesday

Qualities of an UPSTANDER:

  • Courageous
  • Action-orientated
  • Assertive
  • Compassionate
  • Leader

What other qualities can you think of?

Please donate and help us get rid of B.P.A water bottles.

What is B.P.A. ?

BPA is an industrial chemical that has been used to make certain plastics and resins since the 1960s. BPA is found in polycarbonate plastics and epoxy resins. Polycarbonate plastics are often used in containers that store food and beverages, such as water bottles. BPA can cause brain damage, cancer, and can also led to death.

How You Can Help!

There is a box that is in the front of the office and in the back that says “B.P.A Away” that you can donate to.

Please donate to help get rid of B.P.A water bottles!

The money that we raise will go towards you by buying B.P.A free water bottles!
