What is a Haiku?

  • A haiku is a short poem
  • It is comprised of three lines
  • The first line has 5 syllables
  • The second line has 7 syllables
  • The third line has 5 syllables
  • It does not need to rhyme

  • There is heavy use of archetypes
  • Sometimes, a haiku from a Japanese poet does not have the right syllables
