Capturing your audience's attention

1. Personal story - Everyone likes stories. Think of an engaging one relevant to you to capture your audience’s attention.

• Thought provoking question - Make people think about their own response to your question, engaging them particularly if it is an interesting question

​

• Powerful statement - Say something bold or controversial i.e “Parents should not have access to their children's social media accounts”

Speech topics Challenge

• In pairs select one of the speech topics below and write an introduction that is engaging and captures your audience’s attention.
• Make sure you start your speech using one of the three ways mentioned above
• You have 10 minutes - GO!

• Lying is always wrong
• Online games can be good for you
• Cell Phones should be allowed in schools
• PES should wear mufti (no school uniforms)
• Fidget spinners should be banned from schools
