What About You?

“You don’t have to see the whole staircase, just take the first step.”

“The difference between a dreamer and a visionary is that a dreamer has his eyes closed and a visionary has his eyes open.”

Reflecting On Your Climate Advocacy Role

  • Passion: What do you enjoy doing? What do you love doing in your community and the natural world?
  • Purpose: What have your experiences prepared you to do? What motivates you to do this work?
  • Potential: What skills and knowledge base would you like to build?

Benefits Of Breakout Discussions

Key Factors to Involvement & Success

  • Setting goals
  • Having a support system
  • Celebrating our accomplishments together

We can provide this support for each other!

51 of 59

Developing Your Personal Mission

  • Take a moment to slow down and reflect:

What makes you come alive? Why are you here?

  • Use these reflection questions to guide you to begin writing down your mission.
  • As you develop your mission, write it down and place it where you can take a moment to remind yourself daily of your mission.

52 of 59

Sharing Your Mission Statement

  • Be bold and write down your mission in a sentence (or two) and tape it up to your mirror or a place that you’ll be reminded of your focus and goals each and every day.

  • Jay Butera’s Example from the #CCL2016 Conference

“I believe that I can have a major impact on the fate of our planet if I work tirelessly, think big, and act fearlessly.”

“I believe that bold actions by a few brave people can change the course of history. I believe I am one of those people.

“Doing this will not be easy or comfortable, but it is definitely possible. And because it is possible, I must try. I will not give up.”

Jay Butera’s “Why I Act On Climate” Statement

54 of 59

“I am inspired and nourished by the volunteers who make up the heart and soul of this organization. You represent the best qualities of humanity and give me hope every single day. I will not stop working for climate solutions and I know you won't either.”

“Citizens' Climate Lobby is not just a volunteer organization; it's a community. Meeting up with fellow CCL'ers hundreds of miles from home is like gathering with a thousand friends. Last weekend, no matter where I went, CCL volunteers greeted me warmly and were genuinely interested in what I had to say. I can say wholeheartedly that CCL is the best organization I have ever volunteered with. I love the training it offers, the positive attitude it promotes, the relationships it fosters, and its open-tent policy. Thanks, CCL, for giving me the tools I need to be an advocate for the future of humanity and for helping me form new friendships along the way! If you're looking for a way to make a genuine impact on the world and feel good about doing it, get involved with your local CCL chapter.”
