2018-2019 ID Adjustments

Everyone will receive a school ID

  • Students must display their ID upon arrival to campus
  • IDs must be carried by the student at all times. IDs can be worn around the neck, clipped to a backpack, or placed in a purse, wallet, or pocket.
  • If you need an ID, go to the office
  • If you forget your ID, you will be sent to the office to purchase ($1) a temporary ID (good for 1 day). First temporary is free. If you lose, mark, cover up or cut your ID, you need to replace the permanent ID for $5.00

What about Electronics & Phones?

Expectations

  • Cell phones/electronics in the classroom? Teacher permission needed (teacher’s choice)
  • Can a teacher take my phone? Yes, if you misuse it
  • Will teachers use hanging file? Yes, if teacher chooses
  • Cell phones during common times? Yes, but follow school policy
  • If I bring a phone to class and use without permission? Refuse to give up? Loss of phone privileges – parent can pick up phone in the office, consequences
  • Pictures/videos taken at school? No bullying, harassing, making fun of HHS students or employees – cyber or otherwise

Acceptable Use Policy-School Technology

  • Currently no student wifi for personal devices
  • New chromebook carts; treat them well
  • School logins to Google, email, and other accounts may be monitored
  • Whether at home or school, make good decisions with searches
  • Avoid inappropriate, harmful, and dangerous content
  • If you see something going on, say something
  • AUP/Computer/Network infractions (hacking, tampering, sharing passwords, inappropriate content, etc. ) may result in consequences such as: Detentions, ISS, STOP, OSS, referral for expulsion, police involvement, legal prosecution, loss of privileges and restitution for damages

What About Attendance?

  • Excused absences (illness, funeral, family emergencies, religious holidays) all count toward final exams
  • Parent should call school by 9:00 AM the day of your absence; bring a parent note the next day
  • If the absence isn’t cleared in 48 hours, the absence is unexcused
  • Can’t complete work for credit on days that are unexcused
  • Per state guidelines, after 10 absences, you need a note from a physician and your parent for an excused absence
  • Juniors and Seniors - 2 (TOTAL) College/Career Days!
  • Excessive absences? A principal/truancy officer create a plan

Final Exams: Jrs & Srs

  • 3 Excused abs., no OSS: B, C, D both Q = no final
  • 5 Excused abs., no OSS: A both Q = no final
  • 5 Excused abs. + meets/exceeds ACT/SAT = no final
  • Reminders: 5 T = 1 absence
  • 2 APPROVED college/career days for 2 years (total) = DON’T COUNT FOR FINALS
  • ISA Science Test-Can be exempt

Tardies and Truancies (handbook)

  • Tardies 1 – 4 = written warnings
  • 5 cumulative tardies (all classes together) = 30 minute detention
  • 16-20 tardies = ISS
  • 21+ tardies = STOP
  • Tardies start over at the semester
  • Up to 10 min. late = tardy; 11+ min. late = unexcused absence
  • To leave school, you need a parent note signed by a principal, office communication

Dress Code at HHS

  • Must not disrupt the educational process
  • Teachers may issue a warning or send you to the nurse/principal
  • Building principals are the final authority
  • Check at door for ID and dress
  • Same dress code across HCUSD #5

Remember the District Guidelines

  • No sunglasses in building; headgear is the teacher’s discretion
  • No halters, one shoulder, tube, crop or spaghetti string tops
  • No showing of backs, bottoms, bras, cleavage, underwear or bellies
  • No clothes that advertise drugs, alcohol or inappropriate language or pictures.
  • No low-ride bottoms or too tight bottoms (cover your assets!)
  • No clothing holes in inappropriate places
  • No short-shorts or too-short skirts
  • No trench coats during school day
  • No facepaint/costumes unless authorized by principals

The drug/weapon policy . . .

  • Is in effect 24/7, on ALL SCHOOL GROUNDS and ALL SCHOOL FUNCTIONS
  • This includes the school, parking lots, fields, buses, school trips, field trips, athletic events, and curricular/extra-curricular events that occur before, during, after and outside of school
  • The possession, use, sale or distribution of alcohol, tobacco, drugs or drug paraphernalia
  • The possession or use of weapons

ISS and STOP

  • ISS is run by Mr. Toennies.
  • Lunch ISS is in room 180 off commons. Otherwise, ISS is in room 261, English wing.
  • If you serve an ISS detention, please sign in with him.
  • If a teacher sends you out of class, go to the office first. A principal will decide ISS/ stay in the office/ or go home.
  • If you go to STOP, go to office when you arrive at school. Bring work to do. Staff will escort you to the bus.
  • You may not use electronics in ISS or STOP
  • You may not sleep in ISS or STOP. You must work. If you sleep, you will need to server another day.

Parking Lot at HHS . . .

  • ALL STUDENT PARKING will be at HHS
  • Use the large student lot for student drop off/pick up-NEW LANE!
  • Follow the arrows for traffic flow
  • Do not cross yellow lines, watch for STOP SIGNS ADDED
  • Section A turns left or right (Exit farthest from school)
  • Sections B and C turn right only (Exits closest to school)
  • Section F is overflow near stadium, New Lot, DO NOT SPIN TIRES!!!
  • (HMS) Section D is entrance only, Second E turn right or left.
  • Keep it clean, use your parking tag, be safe and smart
  • Parking lot and driving violations may result in loss of driving privilege

Code Red, Fire, Earthquake and Tornado Drills

  • Code Red, Earthquake and Tornado drills: announced from the office (If it’s a REAL disaster, don’t wait for the announcement!)
  • Code Red: teachers clear hallways, lock doors, turn off lights, cover windows. Students in class stay in class; if in hallway, go to nearest class; remain quiet and away from windows. Wait for directions from your teacher: Run, Hide, Fight may be options.
  • Earthquake: students under desks/tables; protect head and neck; wait for directions from teacher
  • Tornado: go to designated area and wait for directions from your teacher. Stay with your class.
  • Fire: an alarm will sound; leave school following designated plan. Stay with class; clear the parking lot for emergency vehicles

  • Food and drink (except water) belong in the cafeteria

  • Carry your own tray
  • Pick up your own trash & trays
  • Never do anything that could hurt someone – throw things, pull out chairs, etc.
