Let’s read the poem “What I Learned From the Incredible Hulk” by Aimee Nezhukumatathil.

When we’re done reading, briefly discuss the lessons she learned from watching that show as a child.

Choose a show from your childhood that you look back upon fondly. Try to write down as many reasons as you can that convey why that particular show was so special to you as a child. More specifically, though, discuss what lessons - if any - you learned from the show.

Today, compose a poem similar in sentiment to “What I Learned From the Incredible Hulk” by Aimee Nezhukumatathil in which you discuss a television show from your childhood and the lessons it taught you about life.

Part of the reason why the poem is so effective in conveying the author’s message is because it understands the silliness of the poem and balances it with a more “thoughtful” sentiment. The anecdotes start light and playful, then shift into content that is slightly more serious, yet not necessarily “heavy.” In your poem, try to establish a light, playful tone before leading into your “larger message,” whatever that may be.
