Climate Surveys:

K-16 Student Pathway Experiences

  • Leverage climate surveys that are already collected (i.e., questions)
  • Adding questions that are specific to understanding students experiences in Health and/or Engineering/ Computing pathways (e.g., intention to persist in pathway, etc.)
  • Collect data and provide you with data that is specific to the students that are in the pathway at your institution

Understand student experiences in pathway-aligned courses or opportunities

Identify opportunities to guide future program development, interventions, and services

Assess student confidence in career readiness and perceptions of access to work-based learning opportunities

Developing the K-16 Student Pathway Experience Survey (approved by an Institutional Review Board)

Identify student population of interest, including students that have enrolled in pathway courses or participated in pathway-aligned activities

Analyze data and share aggregated findings with each institution, not individually identifiable; all results will be reported in summary form

Work Based Learning Grant Partnership with Uplift

    • Equity Subcommittee identified engineering and healthcare WBL activities embedded in Uplift Catalyst Grant proposals and confirmed opportunities for K-16 students by June 30, 2026, including internships, pre-apprenticeships, apprenticeships, and career exploration.

    • Narrowed it down to the following 7 projects with clear K-16 Collaborative alignment:
      • Hartnell Community College District: Roots of Resilience – Empowering communities through AgTech innovation
      • Students for Eco-Education & Agriculture: STEM Career Pathways in Agriculture Initiative – Providing pathways in agriculture-focused STEM careers
      • Advancing the Central Coast Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) Ecosystem – Expanding opportunities in the advanced air mobility industry
      • Ventura County Ecosystem for Innovation: The Experimentation Center – Promoting innovation and career development in Ventura County
      • Allan Hancock College: AHC/CC High Tech Hubs – Diversifying careers through high-tech education and partnerships
      • University of California, Santa Barbara OASIS – Open Access and Scalable Initiative for Semiconductors, preparing students for the semiconductor industry
      • Community Memorial Healthcare – Enhancing healthcare workforce opportunities and pathways in Ventura County

    • Next Steps: Develop a funding formula to allocate resources equitably

Dual Enrollment Initiative

    • The working group met to identify barriers to dual enrollment, discuss strategies to increase access to dual enrollment and to develop recommendations for the Steering Committee.

    • Top priority was to provide funding to increase the number of teachers with master’s degree that can teach dual enrollment.

    • Issues to consider:
      • Determining which subjects we want to invest in
      • Determining allocation priorities
      • Any requirements/commitments for teachers who participate
      • Focusing on strategies that can get teachers to the classroom as quickly as possible.
