INTRODUCTION

Butterflies are one of the most beautiful and colourful insects

ABOUT BUTTERFLIES

• There are about 15000 to 20000 types of butterflies found all over the world.
• They rest on the flowers, trees and plants
• They collect nectar from the flowers of the plants .
• They lay eggs.
• They look beautiful and are harm-less creatures.

Parts of a butterfly are as follows :

• They have two eyes.
• They have a hind wing and fore wing. They have fore legs, middle legs and hind legs.
• They have two antennae.
• They also have a thorax and an abdomen.
• They are of various colours.

INSECTS

• There are approx. 30 million varieties of insects which are more than half of the total organisms on the earth.
• The study of the insects is called entomology.

• They occur all over the world in all the environments.
• Insects have sense and can communicate.
• They were the earliest organisms to produce sounds and sense them.
• They live together in well organised colonies.
• Many adult insects use six legs for walking.
• Fastest insect runner is cockroach.
• Insects can be divided into winged and wingless.

• Mosquitoes, flies and bed-bugs, lice are insects that spread diseases.

• Termites are insects that damage structures.
• Locusts are insects that damage crops.
• Insects are destroyed by chemicals called insecticides.
