Death By Drug Overdose

OVERVIEW

Drug overdose is the over consumption of any substance that could cause harm to one's physical or mental state.

We hope to create a safe space for those who may abuse drugs, while also providing increased access to harm reduction services.

PROBLEM STATEMENT

Death by drug overdose is a major problem and has increased in the United States by 30% from 2019-2020.

​

Most drug overdoses happen among people of the ages of 35-44. In the last four to five years, the amount of drug overdoses in the Black community has increased by 44%.

OBJECTIVES

  • Increase public awareness of the dangers of drug overdose.
  • Create a safe space for people who abuse drugs to discuss their issues.
  • Provide increased access to harm reduction services.

  • Affordable, accessible, and quality rehabilitation.

  • Drug prevention programs (preventing drug use before it begins).

​

  • Call the Suicide & Crisis Hotline (988) if in need (suicidal, mental health and/or substance use crisis).

​

  • Encourage people to educate themselves before taking drugs.

In 2007, unintentional drug poisoning became the leading cause of injury death in Ohio.

​

The average amount of overdose in Ohio are up to 5397 deaths per year.

​

Death by overdose effects people worldwide.

​

2020 surpassed 2017 as the highest year for drug overdose deaths in Ohio with 5,017 deaths.
