Product Rendering Guide

September 2025

2 of 83

Process Overview

Summary of the process for scalable rendering across product categories and large assortments.

Create Presets

Create Bulk Render Request Sheet(s)

Render Previews and Requests

  1. Using this Product Rendering Guide (see page 20), decide on the HDRI that matches your lighting style. (Spin Studio might be the best match for Bob’s)
  2. Create a Preset Planning Sheet to identify a minimum amount of Presets that will work across product sizes, colors, camera heights, etc.
  3. Keep a record of all presetIds used and their purpose
  4. When saving presets, communicate a standard naming convention to all users. Use the “Fit to Screen” checkbox when saving the preset to auto-size white space around products.
  5. Test render samples of products at lower resolutions to dial in the presets.
  • Download the example bulk render request sheet. (Make a copy for each batch of renders desired)
  • Fill out the bulk render request sheet and export an .xlsx copy. If using presets, you only need to fill out:
    • productID
    • filePrefix (file prefix or exact file name)
    • presetId
  • Go to the Renders section on the 3D Cloud AMS and load any product (a bulk request can be started on any product, even ones that aren’t in the request sheet)
  • Click on Bulk Render Request.
  • Select the “Click to import a bulk render request” button and select your .xlsx sheet.
  • Click the “Show Camera Preview” button first before rendering to check your cropping.
  • Edit the sheet with overrides to fix any outliers that are getting cropped off by a preset (see instructions following)
  • Confirm your overrides using the “Show Camera Preview” button.
  • Click “Request Bulk Renders’ blue button to submit the request.
  • Monitor your email for the job completion. Click the link in the email to download assets and route appropriately.

Using Presets to Render Large Batches

Rendering “Presets” are used to create templated cropping and lighting scenarios that can be used across products and product categories.

  • Go to the Renders section and load product(s)

Paste Product IDs here or just navigate to any product

Click “Load”

2. On Product Render view, you can select an existing preset, or set your camera and lighting settings under “Advanced Options”

Using Presets (cont’d)

3. The preview window shows the camera and product position

Multiplier value of < 1 means the product will render off the edge of the frame

4. When setting presets, be aware of the Fit-to-Screen Multiplier is greater than 1.0 to avoid renders cutting off the product.

5. Click on Bulk Render Request. Select the “Click to import a bulk render request” button and select your .xlsx sheet or drag and drop the xlsx file in the dotted input box.

6. A confirmation window shows all items in the bulk request.

7 of 83

Using Presets (cont’d)

7. Click the “Show Camera Preview” button to check your crops. It can take up to 1 min per 50 products to load the preview.

8. Check the preview and adjust any abnormalities with overrides in your bulk render sheet.

8 of 83

Creating an Override in the Bulk Render Request Sheet

Use this only if you want to use a Preset for automation, but want to make ad hoc adjustments to a few particular products in the bulk render request.

9. Creating an override: If you are using a preset on a product and the camera preview is not appearing as expected, you can exit the camera preview, load that Product ID into the Product Render page, select the preset and then make camera or product adjustments. Click on the Copy icon under the product viewport and use the “Copy All Render Options” button to copy and paste into the desired sheet row.

Example of a bulk render request with two Presets used (3Q and Front) with Fit-to-Screen.

Note: In a few cases the Fit-to-Screen did not sale down the product enough.

Bulk Render Sheet

Red arrows indicate products that may need an override to fit into the render frame.

10 of 83

Camera Preview of Adjusted Bulk Render Request

Overrides in the sheet were added to fit the products that did not scale properly.

Adjusted Render Sheet

After adding “override” rows, the products are now fitting in the render frame shown in the Camera Preview.

Render Complete Email Notification

Sample Render Download Page

After your bulk render request is complete, you will receive an email notification with the subject line: “3D Cloud - Render Complete”

Clicking the link will take you to a download page, where you can select to download all files—specify “Filename” only if you want the downloaded files to have the filePrefix (filename) from your bulk render sheet.

HDRI Image

HDRI Cube Map

What is an HDRI?

HDRIs (High Dynamic Range Images) capture real-world lighting in 32-bit format with unlimited brightness ranges. They're converted from spherical panoramic format to cube maps (six square faces) for optimal GPU performance and accurate image-based lighting in 3D rendering workflows. The cube map wraps around 3D models like an invisible sphere, projecting realistic lighting from all directions.

Camera Position: How do I rotate the product?

In our platform, you rotate the camera, not the product. Increasing the camera rotation angle yields clockwise rotation of the camera around the product. Rotating the camera does not change the lighting/shadow angle, just the view of the product.

How do I rotate the lighting?

Rotating the HDRI angle changes the direction of light and cast shadow. HDRI rotation angles shown below with fixed camera.

Note: To simulate rotation of a product in a fixed lighting scene, just rotate the Camera and the HDRI in the same angle increments.

Shadow Control

You can control the opacity and length of shadows in renders through Box Mask and Blur Factor settings on the Advanced Options right panel on the Product Renderer page.

Special JSON is required here or in your client app config file to enable shadow control (talk to your 3DC AD to obtain this JSON code)

Box Mask controls the size of the cast shadow

Blur controls the fuzziness and opacity of the cast shadow

Saving Presets | Options settings can be saved to a unique preset that can be reused for multiple products

Use Fit to Screen

Click this checkbox so that when the preset is used to render multiple products, the outside border-to-product ratio will be preserved.

Fit-to-Screen Preset | Example Renders of Multiple Products using a Preset with Fit-to-Screen

A preset with Fit-to-Screen checked will maintain a general product-to-outside border ratio, though the exact pixel size of the border may vary.
