What is our project about?

In our capstone project we will be making a functioning drone that can possibly in the future do amazing things that almost all teachers want (carrying things around!). Our job is to make a great Capstone project that will move this school forward and cause us great achievements.

Challenges

  • We have had many challenges while working on our drones
  • Our 1st challenge was the group. We did not have an organized group and had too many people. I believe that we had 10 people in our group. So we at first kicked 2 of them out and then the rest of them started their own group leaving it to be us.
  • Our 2nd challenge is we have 5 drones 4 of them are broken. By the way Jeff is leading with the record of breaking 3 drones. It is harder to control the drones than you think it is.

Successes

We have made a functioning Gantt chart and made several drone frames. We originally had ten members in our group for about 3 to 4 months, but many of them were not working on our project so we kicked them out and we are now at four people. Another success we have had was figuring out how to code and fly the tello drone.

Current Progress

So far we are working on building a drone from scratch, however two of the motors no longer work so we are waiting for the new motors to come in. We are using 2 different types of motors to see which one is better given the size of the drone. The 2 motors are Brushless motors and quick connect fly-brix motors.

One very major steps we have made is the creation of the ultrasonic sensor code and testing. All previous attempts were successful to some extent however we had trouble getting the sensor to show us the numerical value of the distance.

We are currently working on a smaller drone while the parts for the the drone come. It is will be known as the world’s smallest FPV drone.bid

Gantt Chart

The Gantt chart can also be considered as a success due to the fact that it is a major requirement from mr.gerl to all capstone projects.

Steps Taken Towards Our Goal

  1. Some of the major steps taken are the following (in chronological order):
  2. Made a Gantt Chart
  3. Understood the major factors of circuit boards like the arduino
  4. Organized group
  5. Got an actual ideal plan
  6. Mastered the understanding of the flight of drones
  7. Understand python code and usage of tello and other drones
  8. Got part to make the actual drone
  9. Got halfway done with the building of the drone

Reflections

Reflections

So far we as a group we are proud of our hard works and progress. A few things we wish we could’ve changed is managing the group member properly and actually making sure they do there work. Also we wish we could manage what supplies do we really need and that we make sure that we actually get them. This year’s capstone project assignment was the best out of all 3 years and more organized and efficient. We are happy to at least show what talents we have for this project and to do what we find as a passion. This all started with the idea of our group leader looking up at the skies and thinking about drones. And from that small spark came a great, unique, and a long lasting memory of a capstone project.
